Artist History
In 2003, Emily officially releases her self-produced solo debut, The Way It's Got to Be. The album combines the eclectic mix of her inspirations--the Beatles pop hooks, early R&B soulful singing and the sweet country twang of Patsy Cline.
In addition to solo, Emily performs with alt-country band Sexfresh, classic rock supergroup Southern Frost, and with Pi in Babes with Beats. She has also sung with Burning Man phenomenon Funkmobile and Shitty Shitty Band Band. |

Press Reviews
"Sexfresh vocalist Emily Zuzik's voice is confident and funky while her acoustic pop songs show promise." -Rockrgrl Magazine
"Let me just say, i keep listening to the
promo album of yours that you gave me...you are fucking amazing and you
MUST
take part in PUSSY POWER V in March." --Chris, NYCPussyPower.com
"Most of the tracks have a sparce, languid production that highlights the strength of
the songwriting, especially that of Emily Zuzik, the band's excellent female voice."
--Jon Sobel, Theglobalmuse.com's review of Sexfresh's The Fainting Room
"The combination of Zuzik's rich vocal depth and strength mixed with Ratliff's raspy
growl makes for an enjoyable break from the wannabe Tori Amos/Ani Difranco
female-fronted bands that appear in over-abundance."--thelamusicscene.com
--Nicole Janson, thelamusicscene.com's review of Sexfresh at The Crooked Bar,
Southwest Tour 2001
"Emily Zuzik leads the band on most of the songs with her incredible voice. Initially,
her voice reminded me of Sarah McLaughlin, then it kinda drove me more towards
Annie LennoxÉ. People looked at Pat Benatar and wondered how she could sing
so loud and powerful, and I wonder that about Emily Zuzik."
--Ken Cormier, purpletights.com's review of Sexfresh's The Fainting Room
"While [Sexfresh's] song 'Goodbye, Farewell, Move On' is a beautiful love ballad
about just that, there is a juxtaposition by lead female vocalist Emily Zuzik who's
v oice not only triggers but embodies that unexplainable tiny lingering feeling that
keeps one from fully wanting to leave."
--Karen Man, Localmusic.com Artist Review of Sexfresh
