Artist description
Sierra Hart is being called the "new" Joni Mitchell, with a classic voice reminiscent of great singers like Emmylou Harris or Joan Baez, and a fresh, current sound that combines emotive lyrics with lush Dixie Chicks' style harmonies.
She has experienced her share of roller coaster relationships, and she lives to tell about it in her edgy blend of pop-folk music. Pulsating with energy and emotion, this twenty -four year old singer/ songwriter has a knack for
succinctly expressing the pain, pleasures and complexities of life. Her distinct voice is crystal clear, with a flexible, vibrato-laced range, and catchy tunes with confessional lyrics that tap into the deep abyss of the heart.

Artist History
Sierra Hart seems to have strong sense of herself. "I'm known for being a really open and honest person," she explains. "I try to be transparent and down to earth, to find beauty in tragedy, and make sense out of my experiences in a way that others can find some connection to." No stranger to the stage, Hart has captivated audiences with her raw honesty since she was quite young. She began plucking away at her mother's classical guitar when she was only 13, and soon discovered her gift for songwriting. The Orange County High School of the Arts provided her with formal vocal training, and soon she was playing her songs in local coffeeshops. At 16, her voice caught the attention of Seattle-based record label, Tooth & Nail, who debuted her on their 1995 compilation CD, ART CORE II alongside other soon-to-be discovered bands like the Orange County Supertones. Before long, she was opening for Southern California bands like Plank Eye and Havalina, and was eventually signed to indie-label Jackson Rubio in 1998.
Her first solo project, Sojourner, was recorded while Hart was a student at UC Santa Cruz in 1998. Her twenty-something peers identified with the acoustic, introspective tunes that revolved around Hart's spiritual discoveries. The album was nationally distributed to Christian retail stores and received airplay on college and christian radio. Several tracks were liscened for use on other compilation discs, such as 7 Ball Magazine's GAS BALL 8, where a cut from Hart' album was promoted alongside more accomplished bands like Sixpence None the Richer. With limited promotional support from her struggling label, Hart independently marketed her CD and booked a steady stream of performances at Northern California coffeeshops and music festivals. In 2000, she was voted "Best Band on Campus" at UC Santa Cruz (IUMA's Battle of the Bands). 2001 found Hart opening for bands like Christafari, and securing main stage performance slots at indie-music festivals, such as Tom Fest in Oregon.
During this time she expanded her song writing repertoire beyond spiritual themes, and began to write openly of the turbulent, conflicting emotions of love and loss. Drifting somewhat from her folk roots, Hart dabbled in rock and pop sounds, and amplified her once acoustic sounding tunes with the help of a full backup band. The disintegration of her former label allowed her to independently record new material, which is featured on her soon-to-be released four-song demo CD. In 2002, she returned to Los Angeles, where she is currently booking performances and seeking a recording contract.

Press Reviews
"What's Sierra Hart's music like? 100% acoustic, the songs are straight ahead. It's nothing but Sierra's voice, her guitar, and some mellow bass and drums. She's a poet to be sure, and her thought provoking lyrics combined with her incredible voice will leave you coming back for more. " (Reviewed by Jason Dunn, Squares Music Online)
"Her music demonstrate her willingness to tackle her hopes, fears, and frustrations in the world today." (Sonicgarden)
