    Artist History
iNFeCTeD formed in Perth, Western Australia, in 1992 from the ashes of thrash metal band Plague. Drawn together by a common love of the UK grindcore and doom metal scenes - bands such as Carcass, Paradise Lost, Napalm Death and Cathedral - they started out as most bands do by emulating their influences. It wasn't until 1993 - when original drummer Brett McCarthy left to concentrate on vocals for his other band Downer full time, and new drummer Gareth Morris joined vocalist Joe Kapiteyn, guitarist Matthew Jefferson and bass player James Campbell - that the band started to progress towards a more unique sound. Inspired by the avant garde industrial metal cross pollination of bands like Godflesh, Ministry and Prong, they began to experiment with drum triggers, samples and keyboards and arrived at a sound that was comparable to that of Fear Factory, though the band wrote their debut album "Crawlspace" before ever hearing "Soul of a New Machine". Hailed as a classic of the Australian death metal scene, "Crawlspace" established the band at the cutting edge of Australian extreme metal and won them supports for many notable touring acts such as Morbid Angel, Carcass, Boltthrower, Pungent Stench and Fear Factory. Unfortunately the band failed to capitalise on the success of their debut, with the follow-up album "CoNTRoL" suffering at the hands of a terrible production job and meeting with a lukewarm response, despite critical acclaim for the songs and national tour that supported its release. The band came came to a close in 1996 but ended on a high note with an appearance on the Big Day Out festival, a live support for Napalm Death (who were duly impressed by the locals) and an impressive return to form in the studio with the release of a three track swan song cassette EP entitled "Trial". A new iNFeCTeD CD will be release in 2003. Entitled "Dreams Long Dead", it will gather the songs from TRiAL as well as a never before released new track entitled "Straight White God". Following the demise of iNFeCTeD, vocalist Joe Kapiteyn formed the shortlived COG (Centre Of Gravity) with SFD guitarist Paul Giltrow in 1997. He currently fronts Headshot. Bass player James Campbell formed a black metal project entitled Tyrant which released one EP in 1997. Drummer Gareth Morris guested on that EP but now drums for PC Thug. Kapiteyn and Morris plan to reunite in 2003 to finally record the last iNFeCTeD song ever written, "Straight White God". It will be released on a new EP in 2003 which will also feature the TRiAL songs on CD for the first time.

    Press Reviews
"In short, iNFeCTeD are a heavy band you need to get into now; it's hard to think of one other band from anywhere doing anything like this, at least not with the power and feather touch brutality of iNFeCTeD. Control is easily one of the best Australian records so far this decade, and as usual it will probably take the rest of the world's interest to kickstart our own" - Daryl Mason, 1995.
