Artist description
The group was born in 1995 and takes its name from the well-known anthropologist Michelangelo
“Mialinu” Pira from Bitti.
Part of its members attended the “School for Tenores ‘Singing” kept by the former group “Remunnu’e Locu”,the other members have been learning the traditional singing since they were children.
After a carefull preparation the group began to perform the ancient melody in many squares, theatres and churches of Sardinia,Italy and abroad:-as in Germany,Denmark,France,Canada,Dubai (Emirates A.U. ;the performance was successfully broadcast by Abu Dhabi TV ),Norway(Trondheim: international Olavsfestdagene ,broadcast by the national radio ) -often in co-operation with the tenores “Remunnu’e Locu”..
The Tenores “Mialinu Pira” performed their first record “Su monte’e mesus” in 1998,available both in CD and MC.
On august 2001 it is the only Italian group that took part to the project “WORLD OF VOICES” in occasion of the “Cultural Olympics 2001” in Naestved , Denmark.
This performance has been very interesting because of the merging of the Tenores’singing with other voices and instruments from different part of the world: Maryam Mursal(Somalia), Maria Leshkova ‘s Choir(Bulgaria), Irene Becker, Sille Gromberg,Martin Seeberg,Morten Carlsen(Denmark),Yu Jun (China), Dawda Jobateh (Gambia), Ayi Solomon (Ghana).
It is also remarkable their participation to the Christmas Concert for the Pope on December 2001 with artists as Hevia ,Terence Trent-Darby, Cranberries, Randy Crawford.
The concert was broadcast by “CANALE 5” on world vision with great appreciation of public.
They were also guests in the telecast “Quelli che il calcio …”, on the national TV RAI TRE .
The group works carefully for the preservation of this tradition by keeping courses in the school(on 1999 they have kept a Regional course for Tenores Singers) and trying to merge this traditional singing with other genres of music as classical , on theatres ….

Artist History
Tenores ‘ singing is the proof of the existence of polyphony in ancient age on the island.
But it is difficult to establish preciously the origins of “ tenores ‘ singing” because of the entangled history of Sardinia, full of domination by others civilisation as Phoenician,Carthaginian, Roman,Arabian and Spanish.
Some historians, in relation to the archaeological discoveries(a little bronze statuette representing a man singing ), guess the story of Tenores begins ca 3000 years ago.
The traditional singing is related to shepherd life , to their loneliness ,only in touch with the nature.
Often the “Tenores’singing” is accompanied by the evocative traditional dances and costumes.
