Artist description
So what is Soda Pop Mafia?
Simply stated...MUSIC. Soda Pop Mafia is a band born in Highland Park, NJ, playing earth-rattling grooves with touches of funk, reggae, hard rock, and R&B. SPM is growing at light speed as they realize they are a long lost but found musical family. Flip (Myron English – formerly of the bands Black Hills and Walk) and Mark Wasef (founding member of the punk band Stick Figure Suicide, and also a Black Hills alumnus) are longtime friends and collaborators. Dan Kornak (formerly of 2nd Image) was in the midst of a recording project with high school friend and drummer Steve Kupp when a chance meeting with Mark inspired the marriage of the two musical teams. They found common ground by combining their diverse influences (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deftones, Jane’s Addiction, Tool, SRV, Pink Floyd, Faith No More, Led Zeppelin, King’s X) with a mutual love for music and a mutual desire to inspire that love in others. Over the past year, they have successfully spread the grooves to such places as The Whiskey Bar in Hoboken, NJ, The Elbow Room in NYC, Club Shelter in NYC, Le Bar Bat in NYC, L’Amour in Brooklyn, NY, Monmouth College, and Rutgers College, amongst other venues. They are currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their upcoming 15 song, 76 minute, self-produced, debut album, while planning both east and west coast club tours in support of the album.
