Artist History
Give yourself over to the Goat as Adam and Steve did in 1996 when they first hit record on a 4-track together and became Snow Goat's. Though the methods of capturing the spirit of the Goat may have changed since then, the spirit remains in tact. Still in abundance are the quirky lyrical and vocal stylings, held together with an array of hooks and a penchant to rock.
Hailing from Vancouver, BC, Canada, kindred spirits Steve and Adam met while at their low-paying service job at the deli counter of a local Italian market. Needing an outlet for their pent up frustration resulting from the abuse they suffered behind the counter, they decided to get together and hand their damaged souls over to the Goat. Though the bank accounts still floundered, the souls flourished. An extended cassette collection of late night inebriant-fuelled recordings, some have compared to early Ween, entitled September is Salami Month was the fruitful result.
One year later, after Adam returned from a teaching stint in South Korea, the pair went on to record another sprawling cassette release, entitled Enter the Goat, featuring a more developed taste of their trademark sound – this time with real drums and guitars amp’ed, not plugged straight into the 4-track! A third record, Hello Goat came hot on its heels, this time done on a reel-to-reel 8-track, but unfortunately it languished in the can as the Goat’s took a hiatus to pursue other projects.
In 2000 the hiatus came to an end and the Goat reared its head again. This time the two went digital and enlisted the help of some friends, including long-time collaborator, François, on bass, with the result being the typically diverse, and spirited Haunting Malibu EP featuring songs ranging from an update of the rocking Helicopter from Enter the Goat, to the drum and bass sound of The Dressmakers, to the new-wave sounding Border Patrol, to the psychedelic madness of the title track.
Currently Snow Goat’s are working on the next installment in the saga. Stay tuned for live dates and more hits to come.
