Artist description
A mixture of classic pop sounds and contemporary production styles. "Scott has a command of the pop idiom like few others. He seems to swallow records whole, let them mix around in his system, and spit out completely fresh interpretations of classic pop elements. Whether as a singer, songwriter, producer or instrumentalist, his control of the art at the heart of the music is masterful."
-Clay Farmer (Record Producer, former A&R for IMAGO Records)

Artist History
POP IS ART is a band a long time in the making. Singer songwriter, Scott McGinley, has always had a knack for writing pop nuggets, but because of his love for many types of music, has never put a whole album out of power pop material before. With his previous bands, New Religion and Bliss, Scott has toured the world, had a handful of top 10 singles and videos, and played concerts in front of as many as 30,000 people! |

Press Reviews
"I think the CD is really good, and unlike a lot of stuff that's coming out of today's pop underground because your sound retains the kind of style
and infectuousness that was in existence on a lot of those great late '70s albums." -David Bash: Founder/CEO of International Pop Overthrow
Featuring Scott McGinley(Insiders), Pop Is Art is going to set the power pop world afire! this is about as classic of indie power pop as you are going to find, simply put forth here. We first call attention to just tuning to the soundbites and let the music do the talking. From there, we'll say that Pop Is Art features all the velvet smooth vocal harmonies, wickedly long-lasting melodies and sweet sounds that great pop plops down on the table. This cd features 17 songs and you know, picking the 4 songs to soundbite here,it could have been any. I just went w/ the first four, it was that easy. Fans of Matthew Sweet, Velvet Crush, The Dons/Receiver, Raspberries, Fools Face, Cloud Eleven and The Rubinoos will find various displays of the sunny, hand-clapped, guitar pop these artists do so well. What creeps into some of this material that is kinda cool is a distinct Southern California mid-70's spirit. Extremely Highly Recommended. -Bruce Brodeen Not Lame Recordings
Ultra Sound of the Month Malaysia
“Singer Scott McGinley's voice lends upbeat-ness to 'serious' numbers like Even if You Go, and Cry Baby Cry, while at the same time grounding the seemingly flighty, groovy Baby He Loves You. And there's outright sensuality in Bigger Than Us Both.”
“Hey Boy takes the cake for being the most honest song on the record, succinctly documenting the crap an aspiring musician has to endure for that all- elusive break; and then realising the so- called big-time sucks, big-time.”
“There is a lack of homogeneity on the album, which puts it above others in its class. Blissful listening!” -Karen J. Tan
Day and Night Magazine Singapore
“The songs of lead singer Scott McGinley are quite strong, especially the opener Baby He Loves You and Bigger Than Us Both. This is a good pop album.” -Martin Vengadesan-Lee
From Billboard Magazine
“The band recorded its album in the U.S. in May with well-known producer Keith Olsen (Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, etc). The 14-track collection features self-penned pop songs. An advance single written by McGinley, "Baby He Loves You," is already getting airplay in anticipation of the album's release.” -John Clewley
