Artist History
What happens when you put a Jazz/Blues guitar player and an Alternative Country Singer/Songwriter together?
You end up with Necktie Social.
Steve Leist, (vocals, guitars, lap steel, harp, and primary songwriter) has been knocking around for years in various cover bands in the Heartland. He quit the local band scene in 1998 and starting working on his own compositions. In September of 2002 he answered a local musicians ad and met Jeff Barks, (guitar, bass, recording engineer and owner of Jay Bay Studios)
Jay Bay Studios was the brainchild of Jeffs wife, who understands once hooked into music; its a life long deal. The studio idea was launched during a boating and BBQ weekend on Table Rock Lake near Branson Mo.
Necktie Social represents the debut commercial grade project for Jay Bay (See Jennifer Lopez for etymology).
The hours flew by and two months later their first CD, Things of Comfort, was released.
With a wide variety of musical influences from the Beatles, Stones, Tom Waits,
Television, Talking Heads, and Gram Parsons Steves writing style and song composition will always keep you guessing. This album is a mixture of brand new material and some older songs that go back to 1998. The album has a wonderful mixture of tears in your beer and satirical ballads to flat out rockers.
Currently the boys are working on their second CD and bringing other members into the band. By time the second album, Hang in There, is released they should be ready to hit the road. Look for their next album in February 2003.
