Artist description
Atmospheric, alternative-laced indie pop with a bit of nashville grit. "Warm, sensuous female vocals wrapped around incandescent melodies" encompassing moments that "transcend and literaly sends shivers".This spirited four piece from the NYC area bring a rich layered electric and acoustic sound to strong melodies. With smoky, heartfelt vocals Violet Truth plow through pop anthems with just enough edge to brand them unique. The album available here is really our earlier efforts. Spanning 97', 98', and 99'. Hence, the title. We also thought it was funny since pretty much all our years together are "The Forgotten Years" to most of you. Hope you enjoy the music...Our new CD "Candy Coated" is available now at all live shows and online at CDBABY.COM |

Press Reviews
Mike Doktorski from The New Brunswick Underground- May 2000: This album is really excellent - and Violet Truth refreshingly doesn?t really fit in with the NJ Indie rock scene. Mostly alt-country sensibility a la Wilco or the Jayhawks with one song sounding like something off Magical Mystery Tour complete with the fade-out/fade-in Iamthewalrus ending. Very cool.Jim Testa Jersey Beat Violet Truth - Candy Coated - Hoboken will always miss Tiny Lights but happily Violet Truth follows in the same tradition - warm, sensuous female vocals wrapped around incandescent melodies. Candy Coated's pop shimmer shows that Victoria Crago's vocals have grown sweeter, more confident, and more mature. This is an exquisite CD, from the heartland anthem "Minnesota" to the wistfully bittersweet love ballad "I Might Go". James Mastro's production adds the perfect touch of country twang and folkie jangle. Play this at bedtime and you're guaranteed sweet dreams. Praise for the new album,(CT10) An impressive collection of heart-on-sleeve emotion swathed in imagery, there are moments here that transcend and literally send shivers. Masterfully produced by James (Health & Happiness Show) Mastro, Candy Coated is brimming with brooding, reflective vocals; moody, atmospheric, tunes; a hint of jangle; and deceptively gorgeous melodies that barely conceal the hurt, wonder and sweet-voiced contempt of sharp, insightful, hard-hitting vocalist Victoria Crago. - Al Muzer at The Aquarian September 2000 Indie-music.com - This dynamic New Jersey group, fronted by Victoria Crago, can switch from pop rock to folk rock with ease. Victoria's soprano-alto vocals seem perfect for every tune and she exhibits a wonderful high-note range (as on the opener "Waterproof"), the down-n-dirty grit of Janis Joplin (on "Another Lonely Girl") to sounding like Heart's Ann Wilson on "Minnesota." Victoria's vocals just attach themselves to your heart and grow on you. By the time all 10 songs have been played, it's obvious that this one gorgeous voice! (It works the same with the infectious melodies, too.) Another thing that's evident is the superb, crystal clear production work -- no lyric sheet is needed. Victoria's perfect pronunciation certainly helps in that area. James Mastro has done a great job in keeping everything separate yet simultaneously creating a cohesive sound -- tight, polished and spirited. The pick for the CD's best tune? "Minnesota" -- hands down. It has the flow of a river, controlled passionate vocals, pulsing rhythm and great instrumentation. And vocals...did we say passion? Violet Truth. Remember that name. Listen to those lyrics. Hear THAT voice. |
