Press Reviews Tru Smoke Diezel Self Titled(no label)Review by Paulina Blanford * * * * * Crucifying, ripping, overwhelming--only a few words to describe TSD's brilliant selftitled full length. There are no weak links in this thrash and hardcore inspired chain. Every song is heavy with the passion and intensity of five talented musicians. The drums aren't beat they are annihilated with everything between classic metal and seemingly almost heavy tribal rhythms. The guitars/bass are pounded like a 'skull on the curb' with tight musical structures mainly combining speed/thrash/HC lines. The songs "Slowburn"(drilling guitar lines on this one), "Dropped" and "Filth" back up these analogies with ease. Other songs such as the barely containable "Invertebrate" and "Empty Handed" keep the listener enthralled proving TSD can hold their own and make one FEEL the music. Equal to these ferocious sounds are the angry and disgusted vox. Lead vocalist Mike Affinito doesn't actually 'sing', he breathes out emotion with a voice of pain laced aggression especially on "Hole Within" and "Killswitch". Not an easy task considering the power of the band and the highly personal yet instantly relatable lyrical content(self doubt, hatred, personal demons..etc). In the end the band comes together from singular, distinctive personages to form a raging inferno of thrash turmoil. TSD is now armed with a fine disc to take on the music industry and the metal addicted masses. Unapologetically grabbing them by the balls to gain attention with the plan to keep it for years to come. This combination kicked my ass the very first listen and did so every subsequent time I played it. Never once did the sound let up...it continually pounded away at me and inspired illusions of myself smashing things (like all good thrash should).
