Artist description
"San Francisco's Small Wonder lilt and jangle through pristine, kinetic songs with introspectivelyrics and passionate vocals that are charming with warmness and uncontrived sincerity."-Listen.ComAfter playing around the Bay Area for a couple ofyears in various configurations,Kiley Henner(Bass)and Johanna Keith(Vocals/Guitar) wearily retreated back home. They put together a small recording studio and started writing new songs. Learning how to record afforded them the opportunity to study songwriting from a listening point of view instead of a jamming or performance one. The newsongs were a little more sparse and quiet with a greater emphasis on the craft itself. "It also allows you to try a song," says Keith, "that you might not have much faith in as you are playing it, but realize it has potential when you hear it broken down in a studio situation. If you areonly jamming, you might think that adding a lot of parts and odd time signatures is a plus. Listeningback, you can see that many songs are best in their simplest form."After some frustrating nights with a lot of yelling and screaming (some at the new machinery and someat each other) a few of the new songs were put together on a CD and given the title of Small Wonder-The Barometer Speaks. Shortly after that, a couple of the tunes found their way on to some Bay Area compilation albums -11345 Records Horseshoes and Bar-B-Ques and Jim Greer's Fortune Records Fortune Cookies. Now Small Wonder have added Jimmy Monack (Drums)and Eben Henner (Guitar/Vocals) to the band, startedplaying live and have released their second CD Happy to Be Small, recorded and produced in their own Small Sound Studio. So where does that lead them? "It's all Sheryl Crow and Paul Westerberg wrapped up into one bundle. A major league talent... a band that deserves a major label deal." -Garageband.com |
