Artist History
Biography of Regan Balman
The Pacific Northwest never seems to run dry of producing new and exciting music.
At once provocative and controversial, Regan Balman is an intense reggae artist who successfully blends rock, blues and jazz influences to create unique rhythms that highlight a potent lyrical message. Mixing no-holds-barred social and religious commentary into a powerful sound, Regan is an especially engaging force both on record and on stage. Deep spiritual conviction is evident throughout this singer/guitarist's original approach to reggae, which has been enjoyed by audiences across the region, and worldwide through the Internet.
Growing up in the woods of the Great Northwest, some of his early efforts were in the alternative rock scene. Regan often performed with Pearl Jam's original drummer and once recorded with Eddie Vedder. These influences are sometimes heard in his reggae music through his impressive guitar solos, but without straying very far from the roots, rock, reggae that he considers his true musical calling. In more recent experiences he toured parts of Washington State with a member of Bob Marley's original Wailers. His CD, "The Great Creed Smashing" is a solo effort showing his musical versatility, talent as a multi-instrumentalist, and his devotion to meaningful lyrics.
According to an independent review from earbuzz.com:
"...The topics are poignant, and the words give any thinking man pause for thought - much like the words of religious envelope pushing lyricists like Marilyn Manson and XTC. ...The music is interesting, the lyrics compelling, and Balman's voice is a trembling vibrato-laden tenor that cuts through the music with flair and conviction. Heavy musical stuff that is as courage us as it is thoughtful."
A real veteran of the Northwest music scene, Regan Balman has written well over 300 songs. He has greatly impressed music fans in the area with stunning performances in clubs like Seattle's legendary "Rockndy" and "Swan Cafe", outdoor events like the "Roots Mountain Reggae Festival" in Tonasket and also at Tacoma's "4th of July Freedom Fair". He is currently selling his latest CD while working out new material in venues around the Puget Sound. He’s received airplay on area radio stations KAOS FM and KGHP FM. He is kept busy teaching music, preparing for his next CD, and seeking ways of finding a broader audience for his work.
Through his CD sales efforts on the Internet, here’s an example of the feedback from across the globe:
"I just received a copy of Great Creed Smashing from my parents, and wanted to tell you how much my family (2 boys 13 + 18) and I are enjoying the words and music.... I want to thank you for producing such a moving, spiritual work of faith -"
"I liked it. I particularly liked the Laodicean Messenger song. It was going through my head all the next day at work. It has a snappy little Reggae beat to it."
"I a m a big fan of Regan. I do like your songs, I love the voice God has blessed you with."
"Ok I will buy that... Interesting. I must listen to the song again. I love your voice. Very good. Thank you."
A dynamic and charismatic force armed with a very listen-able crossover appeal, Regan Balman is a truly original artist that audiences have been impressed with in the past, and will continue to take notice of in the future.
