Artist description
Plato's Republic is an eclectic, powerful, melodic band deeply rooted in the tradition of storytelling rock. One part Midwestern power-pop, one part traditional British rock, one part vehement indie garage-bash, and always intellectual songcraft to challenge and delight... |

Musical Influences
Phil Lynott meets Dave Grohl on a street corner; they start a brawl with Paul Westerberg, get a few fistfuls of help from Rick Nielsen and John Lennon, and wind up all going over to Elvis Costello's house for a round of drinks. |

Artist History
Enthusiastically formed in 1996 by four seasoned songwriter/musicians, Plato's Republic defiantly continue bucking the system to create, perform, and release their own music. The band underwent tremendous strain and personal upheaval to build their own recording studio (Linder Avenue Recording, just outside of Chicago), only to come out swinging with a 7-song introductory EP (The Exploding Cafe), their first full-length offering (Chow Mein Porn Star) and their fantastic 3rd CD SUPERBUBBLE. Plato's Republic performs regularly in and around the Chicago area, so catch them if/when you can! |

Press Reviews
Bryan Baker of GAJOOB.com wrote "...the band is SOLID, having buzz-sawed its chops in bands whose styles are spread widely across the entire fan-rock spectrum...(it's) as if they've taken all that experience and honed the entire history of what's so cool and exciting about making and listening to rock music." (January 2001)
Michael Harris, former Editor-In-Chief of the Illinois Entertainer, wrote that Plato's Republic is "so earnest, they're hard not to like...'Poking Buddha' and 'Harder Than It Looks' stand out..." (October 2000)
