Artist description
Eileen leads the way with soothing melodies and articulate, earthy lyrics that cover spiritual ground. She is accompanied by Intuit, featuring rhythmic acoustic guitar, electric bass, and tribal beats that accentuate the message of the lyrics. This is not straight folk, but incorporates many elements. Intuit is jazzy, rockin', and groovin', sometimes even rappin' and swinging, and Daniel is so good on the Djembe you'll never miss a drum kit. Thematically, Intuit's lyrics center around self-realization, global awareness, and Earth-consciousness, as well as your basic love and sex issues. Improvisation and spoken word are also incorporated into the live show. |

Artist History
Eileen received a vision in which she realized the important role that music plays in the lives of people everywhere. She felt called to participate and began writing lyrics in 1993. She hadn't sung (except in the shower and the car) since 8th grade choir, but when she met guitarist Aaron Bond and he expressed an interest in starting a band with female vocals, she accepted the opportunity, and The High Life was born. For three years this 7-piece band did the Columbus local music thing, until Eileen and Aaron decided to leave and form the trio Intuit with drummer Daniel Frechette. Musically things slowed down a great deal during '98-'99 while Eileen nurtured her new baby Sara. Finally, in the Summer of '99, Eileen took the lead and recorded some of the best songs that came out of those two band incarnations. She got the money and the people together and the result was Eileen Motok/Gotta Be. Intuit performed locally as a trio for about a year and a half to promote Gotta Be. Afterwards, Aaron took about a year off to live out of town while Eileen and Daniel just concentrated on raising kids, etc. Several new members came and went, including folks that played on Intuit's forthcoming album, Universal Themes, which was recorded in the summer of 2001, and is currently awaiting release. Intuit's lineup is now solid at 4 pieces, and they are working hard on writing, learning covers, and self-promotion. |

Press Reviews
Marty Cole, The Other Paper, December 9-15, 1999"...Ms. Motok has some bite in her voice. She's not exactly angry, but she sings in a cool, clear, confident manner. She's agreeably assertive, and the music backing her is a fascinating blend of a style I'd call Hippie Campfire, with enough jazzy elements to surprise and entertain..." |
