Artist History
In January 1994, Jenya'Cooky' Spektor befriended
Mike Litvinenko, a co-founder of one of the
leading Byelorussian underground bands K.O.T.
The other members of the band were Gene 'Conus'
Gelmer and Serge “Burzhui” Burzhulovski. Their
early style of playing was more than eclectic
due to the wide range of bands that influenced
their playing. Such influences were Pearl Jam,
Metallica, Pink Floyd, Swans and the Nine
Inch Nails, not to mention a wide array of
European bands. The Cooky Conspiracy has played
in virtually every club located in downtown
Manhattan, including, Lion’s Den, ACME Underground,
Kenny’s Castaways and New Music Cafe, as well as
famous room such as Hammerstein Ballroom, The Roxy
and The Tramps. It’s repertoire at the time
mostly consists of dark and heavy rock’n’roll
songs.
Due to unfortunate disagreements in writing
styles, Mike Danilin and Serge Burzhulovski
left the band. But not to spare, in the nick
of time, Steve Podolsky, Mike Vesnin and Gene
Zeitlin joined the band, adding a new flavorful
jazzy and Latin sound to Cooky Conspiracy’s
repertoire of songs.Currently, Cooky Conspiracy
is playing shows in downtown Manhattan,
Village clubs, while working on a new album,
which is due to come out by the end of Summer 99. |
