Artist description
...Suddenly, the lights go dim. There’s a kinetic blast of power from the stage as guitars, bass, and drums pound your ears. You’re a little scared by the four figures thrashing around on stage pumping out the intense, emotional music, but the catchy melodies draw you in. Before you know it, you’re sucked in with everyone else, unable to take your eyes off the stage and unable to stand still. Chances are you’re at a Compulsive Behavior show!“Intensity and emotion is what we’re all about,” says drummer Mike Quade. “Everything we do, from the music and lyrics to our merchandise to the way we move and look onstage, it’s all intended to convey a feeling.” “We like to leave things open to interpretation, people can take our songs to mean anything they want.” says singer Mike Walls. “The songs are written in a very abstract, stream of conciousness way. We don't like things to be too restrictive. That way, people can realate to them better.” |

Artist History
Formed in the spring of 1995, Mike Walls, Nick Mansperger and Mike Quade began the band as a trio. “There really was no intention of doing anything except playing some music that we thought was good,” says Nick about the band’s formation. “Everything that’s happened since has happened naturally, we never try to force anything.”Do not, however, be mislead by their easy-going attitude. Compulsive Behavior is a notoriously hard working band, writing and performing around Baltimore and the surrounding counties. After a year, they released their first EP, “Crushed.” Well received by the local scene, CB felt it was time to expand their horizons and add a fourth member. They promptly stole John Glancy from another local band. “He played great, we got along with him, and his band sucked. It seemed like a logical choice to all of us,” says Mike Walls.Since the addition of John on guitar, CB continued to play locally and attract a broad following. “There’s no one type of person who likes us,” says John. “We have pretty diverse crowds at our shows.” The band released their first full length album, “Liquid Pop,” in 1997. The album sold out in a mater of months. The following year saw the release of the band’s second full length album “Trichotillomania.” When asked for his thoughts on their latest effort, Mike Walls says, “It’s pretty different from everything we’ve done before. We’ve never stuck to one sound or style anyway, but this album has been the beginning of a radical departure for us. We’ve been experimenting more and more over the past year, so our next release should be interesting...” What kind of reaction do they expect? “We never know what to expect, we just do what we do. People either love us or hate us, but no one is indifferent.” |
