Press Reviews
Can You Say "Groove!"
by the SpinDoctor, spindoctor@cdstreet.com (Rating: 10).
BROSFAP take it out on the edge. A new sound with a serious rockin' groove. Alternative soul, funk 'n metal - all kinds of influences happening. All makes for some great music from some great talent! Buy some today! /////
Listen.com says, "This band's complicated stew of influences yields something different each time you dip in your spoon. Some tracks are funky dance numbers with rock seasoning. Others are stomping metal monsters that happen to know how to dance." ///// Dan Lavelle of Social Junkie.com says, "...So I visited Mp3.com and instantly dug the music. This is funky music I'm not even going to try to explain, because I wouldn't do it justice. Hearing is believing." ///// Dylan Roberts of DigitalCity.com states, "MOVE OVER, ZIGGY STARDUST. THE BROTHERS'VE LANDED. Brothers From Another Planet pair the traditional falsettos and harmonies of soul with special effects and plenty of metal. They call it alternative soul, among other things, and deliver all the love songs that such a label implies. Consistent with their space-age sensibilities, they also hit upon themes relevant to the post-industrial, post-techno boxed lives of today. Stylistically, the Brothers like to straddle nearly every genre and category that exists. You'll hear storytelling, spoken word, alternative hip-hop, 'post rock' and who knows what else. Using Gil Scott Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" as a point of departure for their own "The Struggle", the Bros claim that it will (be televised, that is). They also emulate the background party rap of Marvin Gaye, and that's not even on the song titled after the great man. Throughout it all, one thing remains abundantly clear: Alternative soul, post rock, whatever you call it, the Brothers' stuff is melodic to the core." ///// Not many bands have the heart and desire of Brothers From Another Planet, as the band has proven time and time again that they are willing to spread their music to the fans at any cost. Whether their playing the funk, Laying down some phat beats or playing soulful love making music, the band displays creativity that is unmatched by their peers. Do yourself a favor and join the armada! ~Kevin @Bandconnexion.com ///// As Jay Lyons -- front man of Wednesday's (5/11) opening act, Brothers From Another Planet -- testified to the crowd, "When I was in school and heard Living Colour, I said, 'I wanna grow up to be just like them.'"--Gil Griffin @Union Tribune |
