Artist description
For the past four years, TRYSTIC has been blazing through the clubs of DC and Virginia. Their major influences include Ani Difranco, Jeff Buckley, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dave Matthews. With their unique mix of bass, drums, and acoustic guitar, they have played at IOTA Club & Café, State of the Union, Metro Grill & Café, Zig's, Velvet Lounge, Grog & Tankard, George Washington University, and University of Maryland. TRYSTIC is also known to play frequently for charity causes, including DC Rape Crisis Center's Take Back the Night Rally, and Tanqueray's DC & Boston/New York AIDS Rides.
Guitar/Vocals
Steve Orders sets himself apart from the males currently dominating today's music scene, through his intense lyrics, chunky acoustic guitar, and dynamic vocals. Aggressive and passionate, yet at the same time tender and honest, Orders plays every song from the inside out. Former frontman of the DC ska band, THE SKUNKS, Orders now enjoys the creative freedom afforded by TRYSTIC's three-way artistic collaboration.
Bass
Nicole Legum is the musical mortar that holds TRYSTIC's songs together, pouring out bass lines that are both powerful and melodic. Whether hypnotically simple or dizzyingly complex, Legum's basswork establishes a groove that is irresistable. Her hip-hop roots bring a soulful ambience to even the most raucous songs.
Drums
Nathaniel Provencio hails from Savannah, Tennessee, where he's been banging heads (drum heads, that is) for 13 years. His forceful, elastic sound gives TRYSTIC an edge that is rare in the acoustic rock genre. From his drummer's throne, Provencio deftly shifts the beats from tranquil to riotous without grinding the clutch. He's played with many bands, including the southern punk/emo outfit, PRO-T76.

Artist History
Trystic began as a humble acoustic number in the Winter of 1998, playing open mic nights at coffeehouses around the Washington Metro area. With a lucky break and some free studio time, the trio recorded their demo and soon outgrew the coffee-can-sized sound. Before they knew it, they were playing at venues throughout their hometown and stretching their reach over the East Coast. Past and present gigs include: the Metro Grill & Cafe, the Velvet Lounge, the Grog & Tankard, Lewie's, Phantasmagoria, George Washington University, University of Maryland, Kosovo Relief Benefit Concert, Tanqueray's Dc& Boston/New York AIDS Rides, and the American Diabetes Association Walk-A-Thon. Most recently, Trystic's members founded Envious Records in the true tradition of independent music. |

Press Reviews
The Student union was rocking Monday night as the Richmond-basedAgents of Good Roots and the local band Trystic entertained, despite an unusual atmosphere. The first thing I noticed as I walked into the Colony Ballroom was the severe lack of people. The fact that I could count the number of people in the room and still not exceed the fingers on my hands made me wonder how good these bands really were…And when the first band Trystic, came out none of that that mattered anyway. Trystic was perhaps the most entertaining part of the night. This talented guitar-bass-drums trio put forth some great music and some exceptional lyrics. The unique guitar style of lead singer Steve Orders blew me away and was only matched by Nicole Legum’s excellent bass playing and the fast-paced drums of Vassilisa Johri. The lyrics also added to the music an unusual quality. Often times Orders’ singing would remind me of various Primus songs with a conversational quality to them. Aside from their singing, the band attempted to entertain the small crowd of people with references to the Take Back the Night rally and even singing "Happy Birthday" to someone in the crowd….SEE productions did a great job in finding some great bands to play campus. By the end of the night I was very satisfied with the great music and glad that I went. There is nothing more enthralling than going to a concert not expecting much and finding a couple of hidden treasures.Gerald Gay, Special to the Diamondback, University of Maryland |
