Artist History
Star*bodixa were formed at sixth form college in Leeds during 1997 by long-term friends Anna Elias (Voice) and Emily Norton (Guitar/harmonies) who had begun writing songs together at the tender age of thirteen! Although he can’t remember, Daniel Norton (Bass) was invited to join and he was eventually followed by David Redfearn (Guitar) & Philip Hicks (Drums).
During 1998 things took off extremely quickly with the band winning the national ‘Bright Young Things’ competition, subsequently playing to over 30,000 people at the Leeds Breeze Festival and being featured in Mojo magazine.
This together with good coverage in the Leeds music press saw the band develop a sizeable local fan base. Their self-financed debut EP “Release”, sold over 500 copies, whilst the title track was made ‘single of the week’ on Radio Aire.
A follow-up EP “A Different Story” was released in 1999, which resulted in a live review in Making Music magazine and a number of internet sites (Music 365, Nave) also picking up on the band. This led to local label Coloursound Records putting out the limited edition single ‘Waiting For You’ in 2000. Sales were good and more interestingly the single started to pick-up airplay across a number of UK radio stations, particularly on new music shows were it was play listed. The success though came via the Student Broadcast Network (SBN) as the single stayed in their Top Twenty for over 3 months, peaking at number 13! As a result of the support from the SBN the band found themselves on a national tour of universities & colleges.
Following a showcase gig at Camden’s Dublin Castle in London the band signed to Energy Records in June 2001. After a further 25 date university/college tour that autumn, the band began recording their debut album at Hug Studios in Liverpool with producer Rob Ferrier (Space, Clinic, Sizer Barker).
Their first limited edition single “Give Me Rain” was released on Uglyman records, who brought you elbow and I am kloot. The release was supported by a string of packed gigs around the country including The Shed Leicester, The Willow Festival Peterborough, The Sound Leicester Square, Bad Bob’s Covent Garden, The Deep End Sheffield, Millenium Square Leeds, The Night & Day in Manchester and the legendary Cavern Liverpool. Live acoustic sessions for national TV (BBC2 Wales – Cable TV Chat Show), and radio LBC London ,Talk Radio and BBC Radio 6 followed. After a great response from press and radio the scene is set for the second single.
The national release of “Fairytailed” is set to coincide with their extensive 2002 national tour, including dates at London’s The Arts Caf, Borderline and Bar Fly. The much awaited album “And They Danced On Glass” will be released in February 2003.

Press Reviews
“Star*Bodixa have managed to produce a track that is completely different from anything you’ll hear at the moment. ….. The guitar sound is how indie guitars used to be (and still should be) and the sweeping vocals are reminiscent of Mazzy Star, Tori Amos and Queen Adreena all at once…. you should make it your duty to seek this band out. They’re going to be big. 9/10” BBC Music
"a diverse blend of guitar attitude, lush harmonies and striking atmospherics topped off by Anna Elias’s haunting vocals.” [Jon Rhodes – Yorkshire Evening Post]
"style is similar to Elbow or a female Coldplay…music with power and feeling….Star*Bodixa are the band for you.”
[TP – Random V3]
