Artist History
Formed in 2001, Broken Oath burst on to the local metal/hardcore scene in mid 2002, featuring members of Glasgow, old-school hardore stalwarts, DIVIDE, and ex-members of metalcore outfit 3DAYSFALLEN. Things have progressed very quickly, and the band are about to release their debut MCD. Having got themselves known in the local scene, they are planning to tour further afield.

I had been waiting ages for this after seeing them up in Scotland last September with MAYPOLE, and the CD is not a disappointment, capturing much of what really impressed me live. No messing about, straight into the carnage.
Following the tradition of other awesome Scottish bands at the moment, Broken Oath are right up there with the likes of Madman is Absolute, Kaddish, Regorge, Shank etc etc.
If you like your Arkangel, Reprisal, Hatebreed, Canvas and the like, then you are gonna love this. Basically, metalcore, but so much more to it than just that, in the same way that From The Ashes did it, including melodic death, old school hardcore, raging metal and flashes of discordant noisecore parts, all mixed together nicely. Some great drops in timing help matters, a couple of awesome examples are in "Manipulation".
The production is pretty damn fine too, full sounding guitars, vocals not too prominent, generally a sharp but powerful sound all round. Very nice.
Then we come to Lee's unbelievable vocal, considering her size and frame, the voice is unreal, just generally it crushes. One of the harshest female vocals I've ever heard.
"Single" reminds me massively of the incredible Morning Again, and the singy vocal works very well and sends goose bumps up and down my spine, delicate, beautiful and perfectly done, then onward rolls the mosh soon after.
If this is what they can do on just an EP, a debut one at that, then I can hardly wait for the full length, so many styles are covered, and done well also, with some other comparisons towards Beecher, Meshuggah, Liar, In Flames, 50 Caliber, it is all there in the sound and style. A great mix.
Picking a favourite is definitely difficult, as all the songs have quality parts, all definitely have dance floor potential (mmm, the beatdown at the end of "Long time dead"!).
Another British band deserving to get known and another reason why I wish Scotland could be moved next door to Leeds. Check this lot out now!
