ABOUT THIS HOLIDAY LIFE
"what happens when I push this door in" - with regards to summer
During a waning moon on an evening in San Diego, a howling six-string fused with waves of delay, sends it's mating call. The response, of course, is met with rigid tones of a syncopated bass and a pulsing snare. Out of the night, This Holiday Life is brewing with a love for the sensation of beautiful rock n' roll, melody and art.
This San Diego based outfit merges indie rock influences with a sharp sense of melodic pop. With an elusive mixture of polished tones and jagged sounds, This Holiday Life blends emotion driven rock with a rhythm section, not far removed from the likes of Foo Fighters or Coldplay.
Enchanted by the reverberating cries of the tremolo. Allured by the cutting vocals of Chris Martin (coldplay) and Bono (U2). Cured by the culminated remedies of rock; Scott Anderson (guitar and vocals), Mark Nagel (drums), Joseph Freeman (bvg’s and guitars)and Bobby Anderson (bass) tame the expressive tendencies of This Holiday Life. While gaining experience and wits, three of the four members (Scott, Mark, and Bobby) have honed their musical competence for seven years, emerging from the rock confines of Kansas City and Ohio. With hearts bent on unleashing a dream, they knew the Midwest couldn't cage them any longer. February of 2003 brought California-bread Joseph Freeman on board the THL boat, to capture the harmonic hooks and subtle telecaster melodies that blur THL in a catergory of their own.
Fresh on the scene in Southern California, THL is moving to the forefront of the local spectrum. You may have heard the single “Come and Remain” on air at 92.1 for several consecutive weeks or continually rockin’ the 94.9 airwaves. You may have seen the various stickers and flyers promoting shows at Dream Street, The Epicentre, The Scene, Soma SD, Canes, The Casbah and other clubs that call San Diego and L.A. home. While continuing to make a mark in the southern California scene, This Holiday Life can also be found sharing a stage with other respected San Diego rock acts, such as Switchfoot and Noise Ratchet.
Unlike many other bands focused only on exalting their musical genius, these guys have a zeal for living life just as loudly as they play, and are incessant in their pursuit of a 'life worth living.' Maybe they've seen "Dead Poets Society" one too many times, or maybe they're just on to something.
Fans of emotive based indie alt-rock are likely to find a friend in "Transient", the 3-song demo released in November 2002, recorded and tracked by rock producer Brent Milligan in Nashville's illustrious Victorian Mansion, "The Bennett House." Wherein, pure rock melodies, reminiscent of a cranked up U2, are displayed in songs like "Come and Remain" and "Seven Months and Counting." The more subdued, contemplative number "With Regards to Summer" captures the mystery behind their passion.
Call it abrasive, call it beautiful - call it *extroverted rock. This Holiday Life is forging through the night. Call it hard work, call it dedication, call it life. This Holiday Life.
