Artist History
My musical career thusfar is fairly atypical for the style of music represented on my first CD: I have performed professionally as a trumpet player in jazz, funk and Latin bands for the past 20-odd years; I have a Master's degree in orchestral conducting, and taught jazz history and other music courses at the college level for seven years.
I've played guitar since the seventh grade, however, and started singing in my father's church services when I was thirteen. My occasional attempts to be a singer/guitarist have manifested themselves in diverse and sometimes strange ways: I've done everything from wearing wigs and makeup in a heavy metal band, to leading my own 10-piece funk band under the persona of a hellfire-and-brimstone preacher named "Reverend Groove." This latest (and most honest) foray is, as far as I'm concerned, my most adventurous to date: I'm no longer hiding behind a fabricated character, and the songs I'm singing are often very close to the realities of my personal life. It took me quite a while to muster the courage to wear my heart on my sleeve and allow others to peer inside my head. But here I am, exploring a new avenue in my music. I hope you can take something away from my adventures that speaks to your own existence. |
