Artist description
Mostly known as being Pitura Freska lead guitarist, Francesco Duse has gone through more than twenty years of Venetian musical scene, in an always more effective way.
And now has became almost obligatory a solo album, of a more modern dub conception, free from the limitation of "creating" dub from already recorded material, like it was with Pitura Freska's "Yeah in dub", and working instead with songs composed and played thinking at dub from the start.
So at DubLab, Dr. Duse musical "experimentation" studio, Skunk Zone, his first solo album, is born with the help of his long time fellow Cicci.

Artist History
Ever since with Jailbreak, his first cover group (from Hendrix to Marley) founded with his guitarist brother, we can actually find musicians like Marco Ponchiroli, Cicci, Graziano (which will all later play with Pitura Freska), Davide Ragazzoni well-known jazz player and Masi now successful hard rocker in the States.
With Cicci, Duse played then with Puff Bong, the first Italian reggae group founded by Cristiano Verardo and Uge. Later they will all join Pitura Freska.
In 1987, in fact, Francesco Duse replaces his brother within Pitura Freska playing the guitar with Skardy. When Skardy broke his arm Cristiano Verardo was called to replace him and the story is complete.
Duse brings to Pitura Freska his blues-rock background, African influences and his love for dub; all condensed into that personal style that influenced so many of the band songs and can now be found in his solo work.
In Na bruta banda a song like "DOC" shows his funky-rock contribution, while in Duri i banchi are the African influences that specially stand out in tracks like "Venexia in afito" or "Tasse".
With the third album, Yeah, there is a strong return to reggae but also a greater contribution to composition from Duse who signs the hit single "Olanda" and the artistic production of the album, working with Peter "Mash" Morgan, sound engineer of the legendary band Aswad.
And is with "Mash" that Duse develops the project of remixing the last album in a dub style, finally finding his space for more experimentation.
The result will be Yeah in dub, fourth album for the Venetian band.
Than it is Gran Calma, the album containing the hit single "Papa nero" and the band participation to the "Festival di Sanremo" (the biggest and most important Italian music festival, with more than 50 years of history and 24 million television viewers just in Italy) that signs the band definitive success. Duse, artistic producer again, gives us the chance with the song "Miga Bae" to hear singing Willy 'Nfor, who played the bass guitar in the last three albums of Pitura Freska but was also the leader of the famous band Ghetto Blaster and bass player live with Mory Kante, just before his untimely death.
Along with the work of Pitura Freska, at the end of the nineties starts the Piatti Roventi project.
It is the experimentation of a show with a deejay, allowing the ranging over musical genres more distant to the band become famous with reggae, thus keeping its original mark.
In this production Duse's love for dub drives him to perform on stage using a mixer instead of the guitar, allowing him to set free all his creativity exploiting all the potential of the effects (delay, phaser ...). From this project will came the album Piatti Roventi il Sound System dei Pitura Freska.
