Artist History Velocity BIO---- In the spring of 2002 five dedicated musicians got together to form a band. They were not content with merely learning cover tunes and playing just any gig for a few dollars. From the beginning they wanted to blaze their own trail in the music world. Since the bands inception they have spent endless hours writing and polishing their skills. The hard work began to pay off when their demo CD made it's way into the hands of a local radio station manager. This opened the door to a gig as the opening act for "Course of Nature" at the National Peanut Festival in Dothan, Al. They have since appeared live on WKMX and WBCD to promote their music. The bands style has been compared to Creed and Fuel. Velocity is: Jared Devine (bass guitar and backing vocals) In his first band at the age of 13 "Bad Habit"he began to find himself musically. His influences as a guitarist and a bassist are "Flea"of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mark Tremonti of Creed, and his dad. He is not your typical "follow the leader" type of bass player. His bass lines are a unique compliment to each song and in many cases carry the songs melody. Jon Devine (drums and backing vocals) An accomplished drummer as well as a guitarist whose influences are Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, Neal Peart of Rush and Gary Oppert of Virtual Reality. Not content to merely put a beat to a song. He relentlessly searches for the perfect beat for each new tune that will set it apart and make it "Velocity" material. Taylor Garrett (lead guitar) A well rounded musician as he plays the saxophone, piano, as well as the guitar. His major influences are Dave Mathews, John Petrucci of Dream Theater, Jimmy Page, and Stevie Ray Vaughn. His lead style reflects a musical maturity well beyond his years and a versatility that some musicians never achieve. The amazing thing is that he can do all of this without making all of those "guitar faces" in the process. Tyler Kirkland (lead vocals) A gifted lyricist and guitarist with a strong voice that has been known to forgo sleep and spend the night with his first love. Writing music. His influences are Bret Scallion of Fuel, Scott Stapp of Creed and Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20. It takes the right voice to properly convey a songs meaning. Tyler has that voice and sings every line of every song with feeling and conviction. Clayton Shoupe (rhythm guitar) A solid guitarist that can crank out a hard driving riff as well as a melodic intro. Refers to his own playing style as "chunky". The perfect complement to Taylor Garretts lead style. His musical influences are James Hetfield of Metallica, Mark Tremonti of Creed.
