Artist History
Steven, born Steven John Black in June of 1981, has played guitar since middle school. Knowing only the music of The Beatles for the majority of his life he began writing songs for personal gain. In the summer of 1998 he joined the Hudson Valley sensation, Maria's Basement. He played in Maria's Basement for the next two years of his life. While with them Steven had the privelege to open for such national acts as The Violent Femmes, Spin Doctors, Shades Apart, Peter Searcy, The Pushstars, and Pound. After Maria's Basement, Steven developed a group in college called Flight School, in the fall of 2001. While with Flight School, Steven won the college's battle of the bands and was therefore given the privelege to open for national act American Hi-Fi. Currently, Steven is working on his solo project, Steve Black. |

Press Reviews
(While in Flight School)"With skill, style and attitude beyond their years, Flight School blends the pop/rock of the past with a nasty modern edge that sets them apart from the lemmings and bandwagoners of the current era. Lush harmonies, solid musicianship and an ass kickin' performance can be found on the track 'All My Life'(Black)."

(While in Flight School)"What this band brings to the show is unpredictability. They are a band that will keep you on your toes."
-Simon (WRRV)
(While in Flight School)"This highly entertaining, devoted, and musically talented group of Marist students is well on the way to stardom."
