Artist History
When evocative, memorable lyrics are delivered by an undeniable vocalist, wonderful things happen. Influenced largely by Joni Mitchell's vivid lyrics and Shawn Colvin's distinctive musical style, Lynette Vantreese's folk tinged pop is colored with soul-baring images and textured with emotion.
Growing up in a musical family in South Dakota, Lynette has been writing, singing, and playing the piano as long as she can remember. By the time she graduated from high school, she had studied opera and concert piano extensively at a nearby university and won local and national competitions.
At Boston's renowned Berklee College of Music, Lynette built upon her intensive classical training and explored virtually every genre of contemporary music, both on stage and in the studio. Studying songwriting and vocal performance, Lynette received numerous honors for her artistic and academic achievements.
Upon graduation, Lynette moved to Nashville, where she taught herself how to play guitar and developed her gift as an expressive, insightful lyricist. She gained employment at the record label Star Song Communications, then later the commercial recording studio Hummingbird Productions. It was at Hummingbird that she met her future husband, guitarist, co-writer and producer, Brett Vantreese.
After performing locally and doing demo and jingle session work, Lynette was the first artist signed to ATC Records, an independent Nashville label formed in 2001. Her self-titled debut CD was released in February of 2002, garnering critical acclaim in Nashville's "The City Paper" and the "Nashville Scene."
Lynette has since toured extensively throughout the southeast, performing at top Nashville venues such as 3rd & Lindsley and the famed Bluebird Cafe. She opened for multi-platinum pop artist Edwin McCain and a band known as The Players, featuring Nashville's finest session players. She also participated in the Bands On Ice talent search held in Nashville earlier this year.
Lynette has appeared in the round with some of Nashville's best writers, including country artist Paul Overstreet, Allen Shamblin ("He Walked on Water"), Jim Weatherly ("Midnight Train to Georgia"), Carl Jackson ("Little Mountain Church Home") and contemporary Christian artist Morgan Cryar. Lynette is also a performing member of Indiegrrl, a cooperative working to further the cause of women in the independent music industry.
Lynette Vantreese has a unique flair for sensitive lyrics, combined with a penetrating and heartfelt vocal style. In a culture increasingly defined by pretense and superficiality, an authentic spirit of sincerity and humility is always a precious find. When combined with exceptional talent, another great performance is a downbeat away. |

Press Reviews
"I'd call Lynette Vantreese a pioneer if I thought others could follow. As a painter of word images she's absolutely one of the most exciting new talents on the singer/songwriter horizon." (Andrew Vaughan, 'Women in Rock,' St. Martins Press)
"Lynette Vantreese's highly literate, thoughtful and often striking lyrics, as well as her energetic, disciplined vocal style, set her apart from many other area singer-songwriters. In addition, her influences reflect equal amounts of folk introspection, rock edge and pop sensibility, something that's even more evident on her fine self-titled debut CD." (Critics' Picks, Nashville Scene, Nashville, TN, September 12, 2002)
"Lynette Vantreese's debut, self-titled CD, a blend of elegant vignettes entwined with infectious melodies, proves this singer is ready to be heard." (Alli Marshall, Mountain Express Newspaper, Asheville, NC)
