Artist History
The music of J.J. Antrobus will capture you in ways unexplainable. J.J. Antrobus is the brain child of Stephen Clarke, named in honor of his maternal grandfather it is the culmination of nearly 20 years of musical experience.
Born on the Caribbean island of Barbados, Stephen's musical tendencies showed almost from the beginning and at 5 years old he started piano lessons. By 10 he had taught himself to play drums and guitar and, at 11, was the youngest professional bass player on the island playing in various live bands. One such band, with his older brother, won him an award for Best Original Song one year in the island's biggest and longest running talent show. At 16 his family moved to Ottawa, Canada, where he finished High School in 1990 and moved on to Toronto to study Producing/Engineering at the Harris Institute for the Arts.
It was in Toronto that he decided steer his career in the direction of session Bass Playing. In this capacity he has worked all over Canada, and the US, with many different artists, The Morganfields, Crash Vegas, Andrew Cash and Jacinda Beals, just to name a few. After a stint in L.A. Stephen returned to Ottawa in 2001 and started working on a solo project.
While working as a hired gun, for some of Ottawa's best acts, he recorded the J.J. Antrobus' demo LP Fast Freight Train.
