Artist description
Anthony James is a singer/songwriter of some
distinction. His musical influences are so varied
that he has blended them into a style that defies
categorization. He calls it SYNTHALLOGICAL COUNTRY ROCK. His tunes are a vehicle for the
mental pictures he paints with words that have
been filed in his experiential notebook of careful
observations from his silent years of human study.
His writing has been described as polymorphic
with many layers of meaning. It is very poetic
and reveals a mastery of perception. He also
writes essays and short stories. What he lacks
in polish and slick production work is more than
compensated for by the authenticity of the emotion
in his aging sometimes gravelly voice. There is
no doubt that James has lived every word and felt
every emotion with which he presents his songs,
ranging from wonderment in Magic Crystal Castle,
to a playful lambasting of the glamour metal groups
of the 80s in That Aint Rock and Roll to Me.
It is refreshing to know that a 54 year old artist
is rekindling his efforts with such enthusiasm
instead of fossilizing in a museum of past laurels.
His story is an inspiration and living proof that you
don’t have to spend the second half of your life
paying for all the mistakes you made in the first
half. His albums are produced for the purpose
of promoting his songs to other artists. James performs as
a solo artist with guitar accompaniment
and sometimes with his band of guest musicians. A new group and a new album are already
in the works and promises to be full of surprises.

Artist History
Anthony James credits his father, Guido,
a multitalented violinist, who played in a squaredance band, for
nurturing a love and knowledge of music of all types and ethnic
origins. Country, Bluegrass, Pop, Irish, Polish,
and Italian opera music were always played in his home,
thus the eclectic style of his music, which is
harmonic in a classical sense. He recorded his
first song in 1967 when he was the lead singer
of The Underground Railroad, a band that covered
pop rock songsand was largely influenced by the
Rascals and Vanilla Fudge.
He is comfortable singing songs from many genre including,
rock, soul, folk, folk rock, and country. He was in the Four G's, The Bismarcks, the Jaguars,
The Original Underground Railroad, ESSIKA,
Kat's Eye, and now The Anthony James Band. He is now working on his second album, THROUGH THE HALF LIGHT, |
