Artist History
AMYRIS were founded in the end of 1998 by Jürgen Pfrang and Victor M. Garcia Sanchez under the name “Unio Mystica”. In the beginning of 2000 the band was renamed. In March 2001 AMYRIS signed a record deal with the label “Apanage Music Records”. One month later the debut record “Desolate Messiah” was released. In June 2001 Victor M. Garcia Sanchez surprisingly left the band to follow more harder edges of musical styles. But in the same month the band recruited Franz-Josef Kowolik as an excellent replacement. In December 2001 the band quits the deal with their record label because of they were more than unsatisfied with the work of the label. During the same month the band began recording for their second record “Desire For Justice” which was released in January 2002.
Since 2001 AMYRIS regularly perform live in and around Frankfurt / Germany. But the band also played successfully in other cities in Germany. Because of their regular live performances the band has a growing basis of fans. At the moment AMYRIS is able to play a live-set of more than two hours.
Style:
„Metal, Progmetal, Progrock – no genre really fits“ (source: www.babyblaue-seiten.de). According to the music press AMYRIS is playing melodic “progressive-metal” (source: From the Underground Magazine) and a “variation of metal … which has nothing to do with True- or Epic-Metal” (source: Heavy oder was!?!). A judgment what of this really fits to us belongs to you!
The only thing which seems to be safe is that the songs of AMYRIS have “very expressive lyrics”, which are supported by music with “its own charisma” (source: Marc Bugnard, LFT-News). We do not want to copy other bands, we are trying to rework influences in a creative way to create something new.
