Artist History
Skantkin is Peter (PAM) and Ditte.
Peter has played the piano since he was 5. Inspired by a Jean Michel Jarre concert in mid 80´s at the Madame Toussaus Museum in London, Peter started experimenting with electronic music. 10 years later in 1996 Peter founded the Euro-Sound Studio as an outlet for the creative mind and to have a place of his own to collaborate and records. The studio was located in a dark cellar in Copenhagen but that didn't hinder Euro-Sound in quickly becoming a creative powerhouse with lots of artists giving creative input, and the outside world began to notice "Travel" as the project was named. The period saw scores for several student projects at the Danish Film-school. In 2000 Peter moved to central Copenhagen and set the studio up in his new flat. Commercial work began to come in and Peter scored soundscapes for several media-companies, eventually ending up in documentaries, commercials, and American soap operas.
Ditte T started singing in a very young age - she loved singing the back-catalogue of Stevie Wonder and other great artists. Ditte went to what in Denmark is called "musik-efter-skole" (music-after-school in English) and at the time, set on going to the conservatory in Århus to make her great talent even better. In 2001 she hooked up with Peter and joined the project as singer and her dark sensual voice has given Skantkin a new and interesting dimension.
Skantkin have a unique sound, blending classical and jazz influences with large evolving ambient soundscapes - usually centred around the piano. Constantly striving to make "music with soul" lots of influences can be heard in the tunes from great musicians like Keith Le Blanc (drums on several Skantkin tracks), Michael "Curly" Cretu, Paul Van Dyke and Danish/American piano-wizard Jules Anderson. Many tunes have a distinct feeling that is often reflected in the title, - taking the listener on a journey of moods, "paintings of sound" as a critic once said.
Most music is composed for film scores/trailers and music for commercials for some of Denmark's leading production-companies. The first quarter of 2003 saw demo work for the leading contemporary Danish film company, Zentropa (known for the "Dogme concept", and filmmaker Lars Von Trier). This was a major step forward and created quite a lot of interest. 2003 has also seen a collaboration with American ATW or "Attack The Wire". In particular Darren Weight, a collaboration that has resulted in inspiring tunes like "Don't Cry - Sea of Tears" (featured as "Track of the Week" at Raw 42, and the ATW produced "Dolphin Dream Chill-out Mix."
