Artist History
Born in 1952 in Richmond, VA. Sam started guitar and trumpet at the age of 10. He also noodled on any piano that he was in the proximity of at an earlier age. He went on to pick up skills in percussion and percussion programming, bass guitar and harmonica over the years. His first performing experiences other than being in school bands, were in the mid 1960's playing songs by grounps like Cream, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Searchers, etc. While a freshman at Virginia Commonwealth University, he played local coffee houses often and then began to back up other artists such as Cleve Francis and Steve Yudowich. It was 1972, after moving to NJ and playing coffee houses and parties in New Brunswick, that he actually became a member of a regularly working band, Southbound. They started off as primarily a college frat party/dance band around Rutgers University, but within a year, they became a regular part of the bar/club scene in Central NJ. Since then, he has been not only a concert solo performer, but also a member of Bone Dry, Trick Zipper, Opus I, The Acme Boogie Company, Deuce Coupe, Vini Lopez (formerly of the E Street Band) & The Disco Rejects, The Mighty Accents (which at times included Slick Aguilar from Jefferson Starship), Major Woody & The Splinters, and HEY!
