    Artist description
Lope is the solo musical work of me, Victor Kvarnhall. Until recently the name of this project was Moda Tem, but since the band I´m in ´took over´ that name, I shifted to Lope. (Check out Moda Tems [unfinished] web-site at www.modatem.tk.) So, Lope could possibly best be described as a ´side-project´, but to me it´s not really comparable with making music with other people. To be in a band (especially the band I´m in now) is important to me in so many different ways than it is to make music at home. I wouldn´t wanna be without any of the two things; I need both things, but in different ways. The music I make at home is the one where I can explore different things that I´m curios of and want to try. To be able to try things that aren´t possible when building songs with other people, I think is the most fun part of making music by yourself and home recording. And, of course, the joy of doing exactly the kind of music that just you want to do, is undoubtedly a lovely feeling. Basically I do music based on organ, synthezisers, bass and electric guitar. My main instrument though, is the guitar.

    Musical Influences
Really the most influential band for me, the band that got me to listen and think about music in a totally new way, is Mogwai. Ever since I heard them the first time (by christmas time in 1999) I´ve wanted to do similar music. This doesn´ necessarily mean that I want to do music that concists of the same elements, but the same ´mood´, maybe. The swedish band bob hund also plays a great role in my music-making, in terms of composing and instrumenting. Labradford is another band that is always and ever inspiring. The same goes for Brian Eno. The way these artists create slow and intricate, yet very direct, harmonies and they way they construct melodies is to me quite amazing. Other sources of inspiration are: Leonard Cohen, God Speed You Black Emperor!, Robert Johnson and Punchdrunks, Massive Attack, Portishead, Slint, Nick Drake, Cure, the Ventures, Mermen, Low, Cranberries, Cocteau Twins, Yellow 6, Red House Painters etc. But of course I also like harder rock music. For instance: At the drive-in, Sparta, Psycore, Refused, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Television, Quicksand, Birthday Party. Modest Mouse, Dipper, Gang of Four, Fugazi etc.

    Artist History
The musical project of Lope started out in the spring of 2002. I hade been in contact with a newly-made friend via e-mail some time. He also liked Mogwai and wanted to start a band. But somehow we never got to form any band. I just kept on recording songs on my computer and Manne, my friend, visited me a few times and we put together some songs, just the two of us. This was the starting point of Lope. This was to be a record named "The real clowns". By this time though, we were named Moda Tem, a name the "real" band I am in, eventually ´took over´. The following autumn, quite soon after finishing the first recordings, I started to record some new songs, with a bit of a new "angle". These songs can be found on the "Necros"-record. The record is available now and also contains a video, made by Daniel Lennartsson and me.
    Group Members
Mostly just me. But with additional help with different things from Manne Mellberg and Daniel Lennartsson. On the first recording a friend of Manne, Johannes, played alt violin. Recently I´ve gotten some drum tracks from a friend on the web, "real" drums that is. One or two songs on the new album will probably concist of these drums. If it was possible I´d really like to get more musicians to add stuff to the songs. Piano, oboe, flute, dulcimer, theremin, what ever. Hopefully that will come true some day.
