Artist description
Israeli pianist Yuval Cohen played his first recital at the age of 12 and has performed regularly since. A native of Jerusalem, he began his private studies at the age of 5 with Leah Agmon. He joined the Rubin Conservatory of Music while attending the Hebrew University Secondary High School, where he majored in Music, Mathematics and Physics. He continued his studies with Yahli Wagman while completing his 3-years compulsory military service. A year later he began his studies at the Mannes College of Music in New York, where he obtained his Bachelors and Masters of Music degrees under the tutelage of Edward Aldwell.
Mr. Cohen has received numerous awards from the America Israel Culture Foundation, the first at the age of 7. He won the Ma’ariv-WIZO Competition in 1989 and the Tel-Aviv Chopin Competition in 1996. In 1991, Mr. Cohen won the Young Artist Competition in Jerusalem, in both solo and chamber music divisions. Upon completion of his studies at the Mannes College in 2000, he received the Swift Piano Award.
Mr. Cohen has played on major stages throughout Israel, including the Henry Crown Auditorium in Jerusalem, the Israel Museum, the Bible Lands Museum and the Tel-Aviv Conservatory. He has performed as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles, and with the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. He has performed in the United States in major venues, including the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Cathedral of St. John the Devine in New York, and the De Young Museum in San Francisco. He has toured Europe, Mexico, and Canada.
Mr. Cohen has been invited to participate in numerous festivals, including the Isaac Stern Young Artist Program of the Jerusalem Music Center and the Tel-Hai International Master Classes in Israel, the Banff Music Festival in Canada, the Mannes Chopin and Bach Festivals in New York and the Cervantino Festival in Mexico.
