Artist History
Sister Sacrilege was formed in the winter of 1998, when
Vladislav (a.k.a. Vlad) Barna, the psychotic-blood-spitting
bassist of Montreal's now defunct Talamasca decided
to explore other avenues of musical influence and performance
by reverting back to his original musical roots - Punk, Hardcore and Gothic.
Hearing enough of the much overdone and thumping Techno
and EBM music now played in every club and venue in the city,
Vlad felt the Goth scene (musically) had become extinct.
Vlad wanted to give the Goth scene a kick in the ass, thus he began
writing more fetsih, Gothic and "fuck" related material
dealing with real-life issues and the fantasies we all experience and want.
After many years of attempting to work with young hopefuls,
Vlad felt a much needed change of pace was needed in order for
sister to break out of the drudgery, so he let his last
musical partner flee like the nasty bug he was, and began
writing, performing and producing all instruments
and vocals completely alone.
"I had to do it" Vlad exclaims. "I met so many musicians
that thought it was easy to become a success overnight that they
seemed to forget that there was alot of hard work involved
and either ran like scared rabbits or just didn't show up for
practises and sessions."
Indeed, since working on his own, Vlad has made an impact
on not only the local Goth scene but scenes around the world
with his songs. Some say he's taken such a unique and
unparelelled approach that he may have even fathered
something compleely new to the scene.
Not a bad thing when you think about how muddy many scenes
are these days, what with the cross-bredding of unoriginal music
in a last-ditch effort to come up with something "new".
Sister Sacrilege is new. Unique. Wonderful and here to stay. |
