Artist History
When you're born in Louisiana the blues run naturally through your veins. A Delta belle born and bred, Liz moved to Texas in 1990. "Hook 'em Horns" "The Eyes of Texas are Upon You" These are the sounds that lured Liz to Austin in the summer of '96 - not the sounds of the Austin music scene (that would come later). She packed her '72 Mustang convertible, left the White Oak High honor ribbons, trophies, and memorabilia behind and moved into the UT life style. While doing her shift in the kitchen of the Co-Op, Liz would cook, create, and sing her blues. Time after time she was asked, "Do you sing in a band? You ought to sing in a band." So, the seeds were planted. About this time Liz met a bass player that heard her singing at a party - this was the beginning of The Alternators. The band played around the local scene where Liz received rave reviews. During the summer of 2002 (July 7th to be exact) Liz decided to go solo - a fantastic birthday present for her aunt! Accomplished musicians Andy Macintyre (guitar), Tony Ditullio (bass & acoustic guitar), Rigel Thurston (keyboard), and Brian Short (drums & percussion) were added to form the Liz Morphis band. Andy came to Austin by way of Chicago. He is studying music in college and gives private instruction in guitar at BrainWavesMusic in Lakeway. Tony hails from Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh. In Pitt he played with Willows, Squid Bucket, Groovin Butterfly Train, and the University Orchestra. Brian, a.k.a. Drummo, holds a degree in recording engineering. He interned at Sound Techniques in Boston where he brought lunch/bagels to the likes of Aerosmith and Nine Inch Nails before moving back to Texas to pursue his own music career. Rigel overhauled the '66 International TravelAll, bought a travel trailer, and headed for Austin from Port Townsend, Washington, in 1999. Raised by a very artsy-creative-musical-organic-granola family he made his way by playing his keys (with five gallon tip bucket) on the tourist laden streets of Port Townsend. |
