Artist description
Steve Moss has never met a musical instrument he didn't like. He sings and plays the banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, Autoharp, harmonica, and jaw harp.
"I don't think it'll end there," he says. "Each instrument has its own voice, and they all seem to be calling my name."
A Yale-educated musician who is comfortable discussing the great symphonies of Mozart and Beethoven, Steve's first love has always been the simple sounds of traditional folk music.
"My earliest musical heroes were Pete Seeger, Earl Scruggs, Peter, Paul, & Mary, and John Denver," he remembers.

Artist History
Steve performed old time music with the Ad Hoc String Band from 1990 through 1995. In 1994, he married musical and life partner Jenny (nee Drapinski). Steve & Jenny Moss are now in their tenth year of performing together.
In 1998, Steve began writing original songs to add to the duo's repertoire. In 2000, Steve and Jenny released their debut CD, "One Foot on the Train," containing 14 of their best original songs. The CD was favorably reviewed by "Bluegrass Unlimited" magazine and received radio airplay from Pasadena to Paris, France. Steve continues to write songs as well as publish a songwriting newsletter called Tunesmith Monthly: The Nuts & Bolts Resource for Songwriters.
While Steve and Jenny still perform regularly, Jenny has been devoting time to another of her passions: education. She currently teaches full-time while pursuing an advanced degree in special education. As a result, Steve's availability as a soloist has increased.
Steve's repertoire is a rootsy mix of styles, including Old Time Country, Celtic, Bluegrass, and Blues Music. He can present demonstrations of a wide variety of instruments. His appearances can focus on traditional songs and tunes, or on a mixture of these and Steve's original songs, themselves very true to the traditions that inspire them.
Offstage, Steve's hallmark is professionalism.
"I love what I do, and I want to keep busy doing it," he says. "I'm flexible and easy to work with. I return phone calls. I show up on time. Above all I believe in treating people with courtesy and respect."
