Artist History
Chagrin n.: Lack of mental ease caused by disappointment, humiliation, or failure. A word so synonymous with Rosmith's initial emotional energy converted into lyrical content. Never has a single word so embodied a collective of cleverly written lyrics and stripped down rock music. When asked what's more important, the Music or the Lyrics? Rosmith simply answers, "Both".
"It is never a matter of what's important, because that is relative and can be argued. It's about what is real, what can be touched, seen, heard and felt. Feeling is what drives the songs I write. I certainly don't write for the sake of writing."
Aaron Rosmith has been writing and playing since the mid 90's. He has always been somewhat of a musician, singing or writing original material as early as grammar school. "It was appreciated pretty much by friends and family only", he says. "And that's how it should be, at least to start".
Rosmith decided seriously about becoming a musician after the so, called "Seattle Scene" and "Grunge" rock era. "His influences are easily picked out in his musical style", claims band manager Cecilia Nevarez, "But it is also certain that he has a sound all his own, I call it Igneous Rock".
Rosmiths first experience jamming was with his now drummer, Ruben Abasolo. "It's very weird we ended up together", says Rosmith, "I remember jamming with him in his garage, because he had borrowed a drum set for his junior high school talent show. They were doing a cover of Bush's Machine head. His sister knew I was playing guitar all the time just around the corner and decided we should hook up. It was about a 15 minute jam session, and we never played together again until 7 years later".
Rosmith continued writing songs and teaching himself how to play guitar. He played with various other musicians for the next 7 years desperately trying to put a band together, but it never worked out. His alternate tunings and unorthodox playing style usually threw off the technical musicians. Never giving up, he eventually crossed paths with Abasolo who had just recently left the band he had been playing in. The two began jamming together and decided to form a band. Abasolo's hard-hitting style lends the necessary energy to drive the music. "He's always holding back at practice!" complains Rosmith with a smile; "it's cause he can't afford to replace his drum heads all the time".
It was not long after, that a precarious situation, lead to the fateful meeting of Matt Sabin and Rosmith. Sabin contacted Rosmith by email in regard to an add Rosmith had posted in the local Reader. The two met and became fast friends. The two were equally impressed with the others musical style and influences, so Sabin decided to join Chagrin. Sabin has had more experience with playing in bands than his band mates and has produced some independent recordings of his own. Sabin's contribution to the band, has turned out to be key in the launch of this up and coming band, they call Chagrin.
