Artist History
Torey began playing his songs in the early '90s in New York, releasing his first record Freedom Highway in 1991. He took the stage at venues including Caffe Lena and The Eighth Step and shared the stage with artists including Ani Difranco, Bill Staines, Ellis Paul and G. Love. In 1995 he founded the New York based rock group Strange Fruit and after a series of highly destructive and influential shows, fled to California. There he played at venues including Slim's San Francisco and the historic Fillmore Theater. Torey played lead guitar with LA rocker Dean Delray in a band featuring musicians from The Counting Crows and the Sheryl Crow Band, and recorded on his record, Lone Mountain Serenade. Shows included opening slots for George Thorogood and for Chuck Berry. Torey played and recorded with electronic noise-rock band Kill the Robots and then returned to rock and roll with San Francisco songwriter Billy James. Torey began writing and recording his latest batch of songs in 2000 and he has recently returned to New York with his guitar to return to performing his own material. |
