Artist description
Monsoon Teacup is a rare breed: a world fusion project with a sense of humor. The trio’s original songs blend the exotic modes of Eastern Europe with American pop, folk and blues and an occasional dash of Latin flavor. Stir in witty, intelligent lyrics filled with irony, innuendo, chocolate and small woodland creatures... and enjoy. |

Artist History
Monsoon Teacup’s new, but the three of us have been playing together for years and have performed with other bands (see Balkanarama) in Washington, Oregon, California, Utah, Georgia, British Columbia and as far away as Budapest, Hungary. |

Group Members
Jody Levinson writes and sings the songs and plays keyboard. She’s been performing with bands on both coasts for more years than she cares to admit. As a child, Jody spent long hours devising exquisite tortures for her younger sisters and now performs the same service for her own children, who regularly die of embarrassment when they hear the songs she writes. She spends her days building websites and someday hopes to be a natural redhead.
Mike Gordon arranges ethnic music and IS a natural redhead... or was, anyway. He’s played a bunch of instruments on recordings by Balkanarama, Guarneri Underground and Radost, but with Monsoon Teacup, he’s indulging a longstanding lust to learn electric bass. His long term plans include escaping from his day gig at Microsoft and remembering whether the G string is on the bottom or top.
Tym Parsons is the tallest member of the band and plays electric and acoustic guitar. When he’s not playing with Monsoon Teacup, he spends his time haunting local libraries, tormenting innocent fruits and vegetables and longing for the return of ’80s anthem rock. He is an avid promoter of capitalism and looks forward to a day when he can keep his guitars in the living room 24/7. |
