Artist History
The only way to describe the music of Drive By Turkey is a Triangle of Rock. Justin Purtzer (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Stephen Gedney (Bass/Vocals), and Justin Keith (Drums/Vocals) are three individuals who have been rocking for a long, long time. JP and JK started with a band called Element of Rage back in 1999, which later became Purple Cheese. It was first a cover band, and eventually evolved into their first songs. They played at local schools and parties for about 2 years when Stephen Gedney joined the band as their bassist. In the summer of 2002, Stephen and then-guitarist Andrew Hall quit to persue other musical intrests. At this time, JP and JK started Drive By Turkey and jammed out for a period of time. Then, in September of 2002, Stephen decided that he was going the wrong way and joined this new band, with a completely new style. He and JP created their first offical Turkey song called "She Says". After showing it to JK, they realized that they were capable of creating new and interesting music. So that's what happened. They played their first show at Woodland High School on October 11th, 2002 to a crowd of about 100-150 eager and curious students. The reaction that they recieved was phenominal, quite positive, and sweet. They knew that the direction that they were going was the right one. Many were suprised that Drive By Turkey was so rocking because they assumed it was they same kind of music as Purple Cheese. A few weeks later, they recorded a CD in the garage for $0 dollars and sold about 45 copies only from word-of-mouth. As they are about to embark on some serious shows and road time, they prepare to enter the studio and record their first real album, Salsa in the Eyes, which is scheduled to be released this winter. And included on the CD will be several multimedia-music videos. So remember this website, because it's the only place to find out the lastest news and updates on these future rock legends! |
