Press Reviews
Review - Dead Men Walking - 12thhour.com - March 1999 Now-I gotta let you know-reviewing rock tracks is not my forte or genre, so I was shocked as hell to recieve this tape in my mailbox. I have no biases though, and decided to check it out....and actually found the tape interesting and enjoyable!!! The Serpenteens hail from NYC, and call their music a cross between The Misfits, early Kiss, early Cult, and Celtic Frost. I'm not even gonna begin to analyze that mix, but I will say that this is some good, hard driving rock and roll, and that if some A&R executive pushed himself away from the intern under his or her desk and signed these guys, they would become very wealthy..... The band has been top 10 at the College Music Journal's online affiliate Changemusic.com's download section since September '99!Review - Dead Men Walking - (NY Press) - June 1999 by: George Tabb And finally, I got a demo from a local band called The Serpenteens, and it rules! They sound like Danzig-era Misfits meets Ozzy at a slasher film. Thier songs have titles like "Day Of The Dead", "Please Be My Zombie Bride" and "Silver Bullet". You get the picture. And it's not pretty. Blood and gore galore. I can't wait for them to do an album. Hail Satan! Review - Dead Men Walking - The Webrage Webzine - November 1999 - By: Skyler Dawn Let me initially say that when The Serpenteens were first brought to my attention, I didn't think much of it because I'm just not much into the Theatrical/Dark/Goth/Zombie type music at all. I received The Serpenteens' 'Dead Men Walking' Enhanced Demo CD and popped it into my trusty old CD player and sat back, ready to be tortured… Imagine my surprise when by the middle of the first song, I'm tapping my toes and realize, I'm jammin'! My first thoughts were that they sounded like a cross between so many different bands and styles that it most definitely made it unique. The most prominent influences, which I could detect in the music, were Danzig, The Cult, and, possibly, Ozzy Osbourne. Then, as I listened further, I concluded that these guys were clearly on to something new. It's not like all the other ever-so-popular 'Goth/Vamp' bands out there, they've got their own little twist thrown in there and I like it! I could really get into this, after hearing the CD, I'm wildly curious as to what these Monster Kids sound like live! My favorite tracks would have to be, Silver Bullet, Satana, Day of the Dead, and Speak His Name. Oh yeah, and don't forget (Please Be My) Zombie Bride. The production/mix on this demo is very good, Lots of bass and good clear vocals. Over all I'd say this is a band that most certainly could make it big time. I will be looking forward to having a chance to see these guys live! If you can grab a copy of this CD I highly recommend that you do! You will not be disappointed! - Review - Dead Men Walking Demos (3 DDD's out of 4) - Delirium Webzine - January 2000 - By: Stephanie Stevens - Ghoulish men with their ghoulish toys, yet The Serpenteens have an image about themselves that delight the NYC scene. From what I can get from their CD is all nine tunes were creative from 1995-99. A pop/rock treat is what pours out of the speakers. I'm not really into the big gimmick bands but to each their own. Usually a gimmick means the music is poor, but "Silver Bullet," "More Than Human" and "Satana" holds their own. These dead men even show their sweet side in the tune (please be my) "Zombie Bride." Every tune delivers a great performance and full of energy which makes you unsure that almost all the tunes are under three minutes long. A very surprisingly good CD! Aural Island webzine March 2000 - Well I was certainly surprised by both the arrangements and the high fidelity of the recording and my appetite is well wetted for the band's upcoming release tentatively entitled "Assuming Control Of The Planet Earth." Fine harmonies, often overlooked but for many a song an integral part of nonetheless, that pepper the listener that almost wants you to take up this bands banner. If the Millennium doesn't knock us all off I can only foresee are much better days for this band. With a perfect blend and mixing and matching of hard rock/metal/punk, with a vocal style reminiscent of Paul Stanley of KISS in vocal delivery and with excellent musical abilities, The Serpenteens will be a musical force. Not as thoroughly threatening to some as say Marilyn Manson, The Serpenteens come of like a good old Hammer Horror movie, blood, gore and fun. Yet the band remembers that it is the music that counts after all and they score a success. (I now understand why Webmaster Ferrari took so long in handing it over to this reviewer; hope he realizes I'm going to hold onto it for a while or he may even have to break my fingers! |
