Artist History
Hi y´all:
Back in the 80s I´ve heard the Back To The Basics (Let´s Go To Luckenbach Texas) song by Waylon & Willie. Well, I thought, if this place is anywhere near to what the song is all about, this Luckenbach must be the perfect place for a free spirit like me. So I decided to check it out and headed for my first-time-ever Texas Hill Country trip. As soon as I got there I knew right away: Waylon & Willie damn sure knew what they were singin´ about.
The Hill Country turned out to be a whole other country indeed: a wonderful stretch of land where folk, country, blues, rock, Tex-Mex etc. blend into a unique musical atmosphere inspiring to everyone who has ever strummed a six-string. I caught fire immediately, became a fan of the Texas Rebel Radio, KFAN, and started buying Texas and Americana music. Non-Texas musician, but my great idol, John Hiatt, as well as Robert Earl, Joe, Jimmie Dale, Gary P., Flaco, and the whole other bunch of great Texas musicians have enriched my life in a way I can never tell. I owe them many a good time.
A singer/songwriter myself I kinda tried to grow into that Texas and Americana musical spirit that is so much alive in them Texas hills. I kept writing songs by the dozen, but needed someone to give ´em that certain kickin´ edge. Luckily, Alex came along a few years ago, a string wizard with his musical roots planted in Ireland and Scotland. Though playing a whole other music (Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull ...) it didn´t take more than a few shots of good ol´ Irish whiskey to talk him into that Texas thang: The Jalapeño Compadres were born!
Since we are daytime workers and nighttime players´n´drinkers we only play for kicks. However, if somebody should find our songs ain´t so bad, we might sell ´em to professional musicians.
