Boyd Williams
PRESS RELEASE AND BIO -
At 17, Boyd formed his first professional group, The Bare Facts. They recorded and distributed nationally the songs Georgianna & Bad Part of Town, which Boyd composed and sang. They appeared on the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars, working with Lou Christie, Peter and Gordon, Paul Revere and the Raiders, and the Detroit Wheels.
Independently, Boyd moved on to Memphis, Tennessee, where he learned from the masters, such as Booker T and the MG's, Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, and Steve Cropper, to mention a few. His experiences opening and playing with these Greats helped to form his career.
In Florida, Boyd played and sang with the group Allman Joy (later known as The Allman Brothers) and in Oklahoma, he opened for Gordon Lightfoot.
In the Hollywood and Los Angeles California areas, Boyd worked with Seals and Croft as their bassist. His vocal abilities were discovered by their manager, Marsha Day, and became Seals and Croft's opening act on tour.
Boyd worked with Larry Gatlin, Sammy Hagar, and Black Sabbath while in Texas. There, through talent and a twist of fate, Fleetwood Mac hired him to tour, replacing the well-known group Kansas.
Opportunities arose in Dallas, Texas, where he worked with such artists as Dan Seals and Shane Keister. Boyd then joined a Dallas local group called Southwest F.O.B. He was one of the group singers with England Dan and John Ford Coley.
Boyd has also opened for Peter Frampton, Chet Adkins, and John Klimmer. He also opened for Aretha Franklin on a television show called Up Beat.
Not only has Boyd had the opportunity to meet and play with musical greats, but he has produced, wrote, and recorded numerous local and national television and radio commercials.
He has also played percussion on Jimmy Keltner's album and produced for Berry Gordy in Los Angeles. Boyd has also recorded at Stax Volt in Memphis, Tennessee; Kendon Sound in Hollywood, California; Sound City in Van Nuys, California; the Clover in Los Angeles, California and The Recording Workshop
