    Artist History
In 1985, Dug was playing in a band called Asylum. They were trying to find a manager so that they could move ahead. He was a good friend of Jean-François "Big " Lavallée who in turn, was a friend, partner and right-hand man of Johnny Hart of Metal K.O. Productions. Johnny Hart was well known at that time for his involvement in the ever growing Underground Metal scene and has been publishing the first French HM fanzine in Quebec, METAL K.O.. He was also the President of Voivod's Iron Gang Fan Club and he would help Maurice Richard from Rockatak Productions in the marketing and promotion of the band. He would also helped Maurice in producing many of Rockatak shows like the famous World War III Festival and the NO SPEED LIMIT WEEK-END. Big told him about his friend Dug musical project and asked if he would be interested in seeing the band live for a possible management offer. Johnny Hart agreed and what he saw on stage convinced him that the band had a lot of potential. They just needed direction, promotion, contacts, etc. Their original songs were as good as anything other bands were playing at that time and he decided to build the band on this foundation. His first decision was to change the name from Asylum to Aggression so that the name would reflect the aggressive songs the band was playing. There were a few changes in musicians but finally, the line-up settled on DUG: Bass GATE: Drums BOTCHER: Vocals SASQUATCH: Guitars BURN: Guitars Then he put the band in the recording studio where they recorded a first demo of four songs that he started to send to radios, magazines and to the many fanzines published around the world. Soon afterwards, and always with positive reviews, Aggression became a household name in Montreal, then in Quebec, then in Canada and the USA. Europe was not forgotten and many fanzines were writing about the band's first demo. This demo led to a small deal with New Renaissance Records. They wanted two tracks for two different compilations. They chose METAL SLAUGHTER for the SPEED METAL HELL VOLUME 2 Compilation and TORMENT OR DEATH for the THRASH METAL ATTACK compilation. Once again, these two tracks were greeted warmly by the ever increasing number of fans and only help secured Aggression as one of the Top Thrash Metal bands in Canada. With the help of this first demo, they were able to headline a few concerts in Montreal and Quebec City. They opened for Voïvod and Celtic Frost in Quebec City on July 2nd 1986. They were headliners with Bad Results at the Rising Sun in Montreal on September 5th of the same year. They were part of the NO SPEED LIMIT WEEK-END with bands like Voïvod, D.R.I. and Sacrifice on October the 11th. Many labels were interested in giving the band a deal but Johnny Hart was looking for something special, something out of the ordinary. He did not want his band to be a small part of a label with countless bands. He wanted a guy who was interested in the band and wanted to promote it correctly. He found this kindred spirit in Scott Givens. Scott came to Montreal to see the concert at the Rising Sun. He was impressed by the band intense live concert and by the quality of the songwriting. Afterwards, he told Johnny that he wanted to form his own independent label, Facemelt Records and to sign just one band. Johnny congratulated him on this project and asked him which band he was looking for. He replied: " Aggression ! ". A deal was struck and the band prepared to go at L'AUTRE STUDIO to record their first real album, FORGOTTEN SKELETON. Engineered by Sue Tierney and produced by Scott Givens and Johnny Hart, this first album was to enclose the following tracks: 01- FORGOTTEN SKELETON 02- BY THE REAPING HOOK 03- ROTTEN BY TORTURE 04- FROZEN AGGRESSOR 05- GREEN GOBLIN 06- FORSAKEN SURVIVAL 07- BEWARE OF THE SCARECROW 08- KACHINA DOLLS 09- BLOODY MASSACRE CARNIVAL 10- DEMOLITION 11- THE FINAL MASSACRE The management company was hard at work on producing an innersleeve for the album, a nice front and back cover, as well as doing an intensive promotion for the release. But while all this was going full speed ahead, the band continued his live performances. They played for a full two weeks in Val D'Or and opened for Crumbsuckers and Dark Angel in Montreal and Quebec City on February the 14th and 15th, 1987. Sadly, there were technical problems that were slowing the process of releasing the album. First of all, the album was way too long. 60 minutes on a LP was unheard of in that time (now with the CD format, this is no longer a problem…) and the band had to cut a few songs. This started to put the band ill at ease and suddenly, without warning, they decided to let go of Scott Givens and Metal K.O. Productions. An injunction was put against Johnny Hart and Scott Givens stopping them from releasing the real first album. The band had just stabbed their friend and manager, Johnny Hart in the back. Almost two years later, the band would release THE FULL TREATMENT on Banzaï Records. At the time of its release, the band was no longer together and so this album got out to the total indifference of the medias and the fans. The buzz had died when the band left his management company. Johnny Hart had the contacts with the press, the radios, the fanzines, etc, and through the years had made many friends in the HM world. Without his input and experience, the band was declared R.I.P. !!! 15 years later, a tentative reunion between Denis « Sasquatch » Barthe and Johnny Hart would, once again amount to nothing !!! History always repeats itself ! Johnny Hart © Productions Metal K.O. Enr. (2002)
