Artist History Was it the summer of '96 or '97 that Wanderjahr formed? Doesn't matter and the band can't quite remember. Thing is, two of the members have been playing together and songwriting since 1990 in bedrooms, the basements of friends and even atop parking ramps. So you see, it's kind of difficult to pin down when Wanderjahr began. It was alive long before it had a name Mike, Gary, Chris, Sam and Dan were all separately born and raised in Michigan. It's here in the Capital City where they currently write and reside. The melodic, psychedelic style that results from their combination is explosive. This isn't exactly acid munching, hippy music though. It blooms and breathes like a trip, but it's also dark at times . . .sad and afraid. the band admits that psychedelics have profoundly affected their lives and music, but it's not the main influence: "I mean, we don't really indulge in it anymore" says vocalist/guitarist Mike Clauwaert. "Everyday reality . . .loss, anger, confusion . . .all that stuff is potent too. Drunken mornings with friends. Love. Even mundane things like walking the dog. Our songs are just reflections of all that. Just Life: warts, drugs, kisses and all." Indeed. And with their latest project, a self produced, 8 song CD entitled "BURN ORDINARILY", all of this is evident: the loss and loneliness that oozes quietly from "SO YOU'RE RUINED"... ...the crushing celebration of rock & roll that is "PUKE, DIXIE, PUKE!!!"...the trippy, philosophic wonder of "NOBODY'S HAPPY IN PRAGUE".. ..... Life has never sounded so lovely.
