Artist History
James Gray, David Roo, and Kris Godfrey form the trio known as Room For Gray; a melodic, hard working rock band looking to make waves in the world of music.
David began playing guitar at age 15 after being inspired by music for years. Before he learned to play guitar he was involved with singing in the Metropolitan Boys Choir in Minneapolis which first sparked his interest in music and he hasn't looked back since. David is now an accomplished guitarist giving guitar lessons along with playing in the band.
James fell in love with music and the piano after figuring out on his own how to play the song Lean On Me on his Tyco Hot Lixx guitar. His mother showed him a few other things on the piano, and James was then able to figure out songs on the piano by ear. He would later start taking lessons and eventually began singing and playing guitar as well.
Kris was bitten by the music bug when he started playing the drums in his middle school's concert band. Although they were without a drum kit, Kris was able to pick out all the drums in songs he heard on the radio and was constantly playing air drums. When he was finally able to sit behind a kit, it came to him so naturally that he knew this was his calling.
David and James' meeting was almost completely by chance. James' girlfriend and David were in school together and one day were studying at her house. James found out David played guitar and asked him to play something for him and right away knew that the two should work together. James had been writing songs for years, had worked with other guitarists and wasn't able to take the songs anywhere. David was able to see what direction James wanted the songs to go in and working together was a perfect fit.
After a couple months of working together, David told James his cousin Kris played the drums and they asked him to come jam with the two of them. After playing phone tag and having conflicting schedules for a month, the three were finally able to jam on a few songs in a cramped corner in David's basement. Needless to say, the first jam session did not go to well. However, they kept with it, and the three have been working together ever since.
12 songs and six months later, Room For Gray have finally carved out a sound unique, yet familiar to everyone's ear. Their songs sound simple at first, but if you listen closely, you can pick out the hidden subtleties and complexities thrown in the mix of their pop-rock sound. Filled with lavish harmonies, ear splitting guitar solos and catchy grooves and hooks, Room For Gray have only begun to whip up the tidal wave of success sure to come to them. |
