Artist description
Often described as a classic style Singer-Songwriter, Kevin writes songs that are very contemporary, brimming with fresh ideas, delivered from a unique perspective, and sung with a distinct voice. You have not heard songs like these before. They are filled with strangeness, beauty, imagination, intelligence and humour, often swirled together. Songs like Sandra Bernhard, Something Like Happiness and I Ain't Losing Sleep (Over Losing You), are good illustrations. Adds Jodi Krangle, creator/webmaster of the invaluable songwriting resource The Muse's Muse (www.musesmuse.com), "Kevin has a way of creating songs that touch you deeply at the same time that they make you laugh. That's a unique talent and one that a discerning audience will definitely appreciate."
Kevin has a finesse on the six-string that recalls a point somewhere between Paul Simon and Robbie Robertson, bursting with melodic opening riffs and complimentary phrases lining each song. Interestingly, an equal number of Kevin's professional performances have seen him playing keyboards or bass backing bands like Hard Kandy and Crossroad Jam.
Also unusual at times, are the brief and witty introductions to his more personal songs, preventing the audience from drowning in their mood. With many songwriters, we might be subjected to a long-winded monologue, detailing the emotional sub-text that inspired the song we are waiting to hear. Zarnett allows us to experience the songs for ourselves, as if they are written not to give us answers drawn from his experience, but arm us with questions so we can explore our own.
