Artist description
Two Songwriters, over 40 nationally charted pop
singles charted between them and that’s just the
beginning.
James Collins (Toronto) and Dave Pickell (Vancouver)
started their long distance writing partnership
through the insistence of Anne-Marie Smith of
Warner/Chappell Music Canada. They are both very
thankful for Smith’s introduction.
Collins and Pickell, both accomplished writers,
are responsible for several songs and hits
(together and separately) by artists such as:
Melissa Manchester, Amy Sky, The Nylons, VIP,
Robbie Robertson, Gavin Hope, Code 5, Anne
Murray, Carol Medina, Temperance, West End Girls…..
James Collins, born in Oshawa, Ontario, moved to
Toronto to study acting in the early 80’s. James
can be found as an actor in such shows as: Queer
As Folk, Doc, Leap Years and Kids In The Hall. He
will also be seen in a principal cameo role as a
killer named Johnny, in the upcoming feature film,
Triggermen. Most recently, James can be seen as
the lead in Nickelback’s Too Bad, video where he
plays the father.
Recently, James had the pleasure of co-writing a
song, Open Spaces, with pop diva Melissa
Manchester while visiting LA.
Dave Pickell, born in St. Thomas, Ontario, now
resides in Vancouver with his wife and two
daughters. Dave, known as “Pick” to his friends,
got into songwriting through a career as a well
sought after session player. He is considered to
be one of the best known keyboard players in
western Canada, where he has worked with the likes
of: Loverboy, John Denver, Glass Tiger, Carly
Simon and Bryan Adams, to name a few.
Although only in existence for a short period of
time, Collins Pickell have already managed to
garner three nationally charted pop singles. Their
most recent adult contemporary showing, enjoyed 23
weeks on the national pop adult chart, The Record. Their follow-up novelty single, I Wanna Write A Song For Celine Dion, (James on lead vocals) just finished charting on over 20 French stations (peaking #1 on 5 of them…and Top 30 on Quebec’s “Le Palmares Top 100). The fun, quirky, pop/country/dance ditty is also receiving worldwide attention - Including being playlisted on Dr Demento’s syndicated radio show.
The Collins Pickell partnership will no doubt
continue to grow. After accomplishing this much
creative energy in the past five years, just
think of what another five years might do.
Listen for their 4th single, “Do You Mind If We
Talk About Bill, (again with James on lead
vocals) on a radio station near you. Do You Mind
If We Talk About Bill has already been added to
over 100 stations…with many more to follow. The
video was filmed in September and is currently
enjoying airplay on MuchMore TV.
