Artist description Cadence Within, a quartet of young rockers from Gresham, Oregon, have in the past year completed what takes most bands years to accomplish. From playing their first show in their guitarist Luke Oswalt's barn to just recently competing in a Battle of the Bands at Wilsonville High School, they have gained a strong fan base. Who would have known that strumming a few chords and singing about your life would get you so far? Certainly not these guys. In May of 2001, the band got everything together and decided to record a CD. After a months of recording, mastering, and producing, out came Live The Moment For What It's Worth. This full length, 12 song record shows just what can be done when you know what you want to do. Every song on the CD explores a different part of their lives, from losing friends to making enemies, and everything in between. And who writes these songs? The whole band. Most of the music credits can be attributed to Luke and guitarist/vocalist Kent St. John, while the lyrics have everyone's names attached, even bassist Paul Belmore and drummer Kyle Dickinson. These four met at their (former) high school, Sam Barlow High, in September of 2001. Paul had heard Kyle was looking to join a band and Kyle had heard the same about Paul. The same thing was on their minds when they approached each other to ask the same question, "Do you want to be in a band?" Since then it has been nothing but work, and the guys are quite proud of what they've done. With no manager they've been able to book their own shows successfully, starting at birthday parties and moving on to venues in Portland such as the Roseland Theater and the New Paris Theatre. Now with Kent and Paul off to college, booking shows will not be easy, but the band sees no harm in trying, and will continue to play through the school year on weekends.
