Artist description
Unlike most bands trying to make it in the music industry, The Vagrants are working towards a sound they can truely call their own. Simon, (Bass) and Joe, (Guitar), knew early on that Roots Rock music was the catalyst they were going to use to get the flavor behind The Vagrants gritty Rock groove. Anthony, (Drums) added the last element they needed to the rythm section to make a solid force behind the voice that pushes the boundries of Rock as we know it. Dealing with ego trips and on stage fits, The Vagrants started fresh with their new singer Quentin early in the millenium proving now that they are a solid force in the Midwest music scene. |

Artist History
The Vagrants story begins when 16 year olds Simon and Joe met through mutual friends in 1998. Over the spring they began to play with an assortment of talented local musicians. Anthony Herring, a freshmen at UI at the time, was brought in to replace the normal drummer and ended up impressing Joe and Simon so much that they invited him to join the band. The three joined lead singer Luke Flansburg to form a summer jam band, but hopes of permanency were dissolved when Anthony and Luke moved to Montana (to become dental floss tycoons).
When Anthony returned a few months later, Simon and Joe convinced him to rejoin the band. With a native Iowa City lead singer the four played local watering holes billed as Rival. After giving their front man the boot they called Quentin Chamberlin to fill in on vocals. The project has worked great, with The Vagrants playing Iowa City's Riverfest, headline evenings at the Green Room and Gabes, and a number of small venues throughout eastern Iowa.
